Apologies for post 60. It's off topic, it was intended to be a "Private" reply.

>it is a 501c3 EDUCATIONAL institution, similar to a religious, liberal arts college.... 100 years ago. Current topics are discussed, topics presented with research, papers are written...
Works for me.

I got a sick feeling when I read the first few paragraphs. The essence of the First Amendment is to NOT have the government regulate speech. But through laws and taxation policy, that's exactly what they're doing.

It's a shame that you have to keep reiterating what Free Republic is for all the whiners and disruptors who want to find fault, fraud or just get rid of the website totally. I support Free Republic with word, deed and money. I am proud to be associated with such a fine group of people and I freely contribute in whatever way I can with no strings attached. Take care, Jim. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. FReep On!

Thank You for the detailed explanation.
Thank You for providing all of us with a home.
God Bless Free Republic

I did it again! Accidentally posted a private reply.
Maybe I should ban myself.

I'd like to say that this post will be sufficient to those AF'r proctologists out there, but I know better. Good post, excellent comments.

Maybe I should ban myself. I have been working on a self abuse button...but every time I try it, FR goes down.
Mr. Robinson I would personally like to thank you for giving myself, and other "off-top-dead-center" thinkers an opportunity to observe, think, post, occasionally opus-out, and otherwise express viewpoints in a forum that, others would consider to be off topic. You have allowed the real world to to be observed, while at the same time, allowed some of our ectlectic remarks, see the light of day.
I would have sent this as a private reply, but I realize you may receive too many of them in a given day.

"I would have sent this as a private reply, but I realize you may receive too many of them in a given day." LOL! That's it, go ahead and make me look like an even bigger schmuck! [Hitting the "Self Abuse" button!]

What is Free Republic then? So, Free Republic is not a commercial operation nor is it a charity. What is it then? It is simply what it is, a non-commercial, not for profit public (decidely for conservatives) electronic townhall meeting and bulletin board discussion forum operated as an avocation with its expenses paid for in the form of taxable gifts from some of its fans because they love it, and they do not want it to die.
PERFECT!

This is a good explanation but really, you need not explain what FR is to those of us who see its value and willingly donate to it. I love FR and will support it financially for as long as I can.

Good post, I was here a year before I pieced all of what you just said together from dribs and drabs on a hundred different threads. There are a lot of people who joined up since the election who haven't got a clue what FR is about.
