Otherwise, great post. Loved the ones of the freed prisoners, especially the women prisoners. BUMP
EDS NOTE: THIS PICTURE MAY HAVE BEEN REVIEWED AS IT WAS SENT VIA NAVY COMUNICATIONS--U.S. sailors play a game of basketball in the hangar bay where aircraft are maintained aboard the USS Roosevelt Wednesday Dec. 12, 2001, in the Arabian Sea. Sailors aboard the ship have been working on a reversed schedule starting their day at 6 o'clock pm and finishing around 7 o'clock am to provide continuous support to Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. U.S. Marines, building a detention facility outside the walls of Camp Rhino in Southern Afghanistan, speak to someone in a green metal container December 11, 2001. According to Marine officials, the only detainee at Camp Rhino is American Taliban fighter John Walker, who is classified as a battlefield detainee until his status is changed by the highest levels of government. That, along with booby traps, has been my greatest concern for members of our military who are searching "abandoned" or recently evacuated caves. Great post.
This is what I heard on NPR the other day. Various aid organizations have very quickly hired hundreds of Afghan women to go house to house and distribute ration tickets. These newly hired aid workers were trained poorly and hastily. Some of the women aid workers were only giving out one ration ticket per house; some were giving out one ticket per family per house (many Afghan families share the same house), and some were even giving out one ticket per person. Naturally chaos has been reigning ever since, and the women of the various houses are extremely upset when they find that they only got one or a few tickets while their neighbors got more. I don't know how this is going to get resolved...
"Liberalism" is simply an attempt to support one's own self-esteem by joining a like-minded crowd bent one disrespecting their betters with second-guessing and double standards.
Teddy Roosevelt must have had such people in mind when he said, "It is not the critic who counts . . .".
How ironic that Taliban Johnny would find himself imprisoned in one of the very same containers in which so very many prisoners of the Taliban froze and starved to death over the years! BTW everyone, this guy was very recalicitrant before, and I would take any "information" he gives us with a VERY large grain of salt.
