From what I've read, the death of an animal can be just as traumatic as that of a human family member. After all, they give unconditional love, unlike most people. But, the grief isn't as socially recognized. I've had my oldest cat (although he's still my baaaaby) since I was in college - although he's slowed down, I can't imagine life without him, but I know someday it will happen.

The worst part is the time period when you actually make the decision till the injection is administered to the pet. The only way I can explain the feeling is a nauseating knot in the pit of your stomach and in the very base of your soul. However it is part of life and would never trade the happy times for no time at all. MHO DUCKMAN.

In my opinion, the worst time, most traumatic, is when you make the decision to have your pet put to sleep till the vet actually administers the fatal dose.
