Americans United for The Unity of Church and State

A few years ago Americans United for The Unity of Church and State set several goals, but the three most important were the following.

1. Pray for and support the effort to make it legal in the United States of America, for a student to pray at a graduation ceremony.

2. Pray for and support the effort to return prayer to the classroom.

3. Pray for and support the effort to make it against the law in America to kill a human baby.

PRAISE GOD FOR VICTORY

On Dec. 10, 2001 The United States Supreme Court said that if it is done by the student, and not the school or an official prayer is now legal to pray at graduation.

Please continue to pray and support our efforts in the other two areas. President/Founder Dr. Wiley S. Drake Americans United for The Unity of Church and State 6801 Western Ave. Buena Park,CA. 90621 1-714-522-7201

The first two points would be largely irrelevant if government schools were abolished; the third is just as much a question of natural, rational justice as one of religious teaching. Is the "Unity of Church and State" just a mirror of "Americans United for Separation of Church & State"? I'm just as suspicious of a state that identifies itself as The Church, as a state that identifies itself as no-church.

Americans United for The Unity of Church and State

Whose Church? The most popular Church? The most powerful Church? The most politically correct Church? I have a feeling that if the state united with the "Church" I probably wouldn't like the results and neither would you. Imagine two hundred years down the road, and your decendents are still practicing Christianity while the rest of the country has converted to Scientology. Can you imagine how awkward it would be for them at school? Just a thought...

This old press release might explain better where we are coming from.

PRESS RELEASE

July 4th, 1999, Independence Day, Pastor Wiley Drake, announced the forming of an organization called,

"AMERICANS UNITED FOR THF UNITY OF CHURCH AND STATE

The purpose of the group, pastor Drake said, is the following

"To return Church and State to the Biblical Foundation and principles which were understood by the Founding Fathers of America, and guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights."

Some of the projects planned for the near future are...

1. To encourage Churches to post The Ten Commandments.

2.To encourage local municipal buildings and offices to post the Ten Commandments.

3.Establishment of religious principles in political parties.

4.Re-establish the Bible as a public school textbook.

5.Assist voters to become registered, and help them know what Biblical character qualities to look for when considering a political candidate.

6.Provide public and private school teachers with materials that will assist them in teaching the religious and Biblical principles held by the Founding Fathers of America.

7.Provide public officials with materials that explain what they can legally do, in their public and private lives to re-establish Biblical and religious qualities of character.

8.Work to re-establish prayer in school based upon years of school prayer history.

9.Work and support the legality of student prayer at graduation ceremonies.

10. Work and support the effort to make it illegal to kill a human baby in the United States.

Why is that scary, are you on your way to heaven or hell? Jesus said He is the Way. Does not scare me in the least read our early history.

I've read (and understand) a lot of history and the fact that you want the goverment to unite with your church indicates you don't know much about why people came to this continent and why the constitution was wrtten as it was. You are in serious need of a Civics 101 class.

2. Pray for and support the effort to return prayer to the classroom.

Whose God will we pray to? Do we pray to Jesus Christ on Monday and Allah on Tuesday? Teachers are NOT prayer leaders. I decide where my child recieves religous training by choosing which church to attend. I have very little control over who my children's teachers are. If your childs teacher was a practicing Wiccan would you want him/her leading your child in prayer. Prayer isn't outlawed in school anyway, that's impossible. My children know they can pray anytime they want and no one can stop them. The schools have enough trouble teacing the three R's. Leave religous training to the churches.

The people who want the government teaching religion are those who have never been to the DMV or a government hospital.

I understand where you're coming from, but this one:

3.Establishment of religious principles in political parties.

goes directly against the principles of the Founders.

I think what the real goal ought to be is to get the courts to reinterpret the establishment clause to something with more common sense.
