Thanks for the post. It looks interesting but I refuse to give WP a hit even though we can't post the article.

Yeah, it's a joke. Can you imagine the day that Americans are paying International taxes to support International police forces and courts? There will be no justice for the American lover of freedom, but plenty of perks for those who are politically sensible. I hope America never gives up its sovereignty to the likes of Mr. Kofi Anan (sp?). The United Nations cannot be trusted to ensure our liberties when they care nothing of the liberties of others. Have a good day. I'm glad I have a place to vent.

You will have to do more than just HOPE. Freedom is not free, it must be earned by every generation. You are correct, right now our sovereignty is on the line, and our congress is pushing to abolish it, for the sake of political contributions from big business...Job preservation in politics I call it.

Where would sex trafficking be if there were no market for it? All cultures should address this disease spreading macho activity.

um, this is about bosnia, vooch. i'm sure it's the same in kosovo, though. this is a typical situation for a un mission/nato occupation. there are always lots of prostitutes where there are lots of sodiers far from home. i remember seeing the ukrainian prostitutes driving their cars into bosnia when the ifors were first deploying back in 1996. it was quite a parade. apparently, they thought the pickings would be better in a nato zone than they had been in a un mission zone.

(these prostitutes sure didn't look coerced to me... driving their cars and smiling, no men in the cars. i guess some are tricked, but there are also many who willingly volunteer. that said, i abhor prostitution and all that goes with it. then, i'm a woman.)

this article also offers a pretty good picture of how things can work in a un mission. the civpol slots are highly paid, and such posts are procured through bribery in some countries, including bulgaria. so guess what sort of "police officers" you get from those countries? civpol has always been the weak link in un missions. some countries send excellent officers, while others send ... well... and their shenanigans do tend to be covered up, the "bad eggs" sent home rather than prosecuted in a local court of law.

a little side note on bulgarian civpol: in cambodia, it was soon obvious that the civpol sent by bugaria were no policemen...they turned out to be medical doctors who had bribed their way to these jobs for the high pay. they wound up doing health education, much-needed in cambodia at that time, so it all worked out for the best in that case.

sorry for the bad typing, all. broken wrist.
