Local Media/ Louisiana State Police ^

| State Trooper Warning

Just on the local media-'Shreveport Louisiana-State Police are reporting a heightened state of security after recieving a tip with a thinly veiled threat.
Troopers stated that the Independence Bowl would follow a pattern set forth with the verbage that Islamic extremists hate....American, United, World Trade Center, Independence..the specific stadium has just undergone renovations which increased the capacity to over fifty thousand.'
This would seem to be a logical target

Very bad news indeed on two fronts. One that the terrorists would try another attack and I hope that law enforcement officials stay ever vigilant in thwarting that. And two, that Alabama is even playing in a bowl game!!! Man, with all these bowls, they'll let anybody in. LOL

Sorry, but the real outrage in Shreveport is that a corrupt Alabama program is being allowed to represent the SEC in a bowl game. As the Tide awaits sanctions from the NCAA, a grand jury in Memphis is still sifting through evidence from the Alabama recruiting scandal, and will probably indict a prominent Bama booster in the coming months. Meanwhile, a Georgia newspaper is reporting that a former Tide player received a used SUV from a dealership owned by another Tide supporter--and he drove the vehicle away without paying any money, or even completing his credit application. Confronted with evidence of these--and other--infractions, Bama had the gall to announce that there wasn't enough proof to support the most galling cheating allegation, that Tide booster Logan Young paid $200,000 to secure the recruitment of Memphis high school star Albert Means.
Bama's once-mighty football program is rotten to the core and should not be rewarded with a post-season bowl appearance. Bama's only "reward" for its various offenses should be the "death penalty," i.e. suspending its football program for a couple of years, a la SMU in the 1980s. Bear Bryant was known to cut corners every now and then, but nothing like this. The Bear must be spinning in his grave....

I am really torn. I lived in Arkansas for 24 years and Oklahoma for the past 20. I went to school in Fayetteville and in Norman.
On the other hand you might say I can't lose. ;-)
My only real comoplaint is that the game starts so early in the morning.

Interesting, if not amazing, that this thread 'morphed' in merely 2 or 3 posts from one about TERRORISM into another talking and arguing FOOTBALL! :-)
I'll bet the posting Freeper is getting a bit angry!! ;-)

It's what they did to the U-Dub... too many Rose Bowl appearances, apparently, made the rest of the Pac-10 jealous. So, after investigating, they were found to have done similar, and then no more Rose Bowl for several years... oh well, College Football, like everything else in our society, is now corrupt...

Why not? People make money hand-over-fist off these kids...

How about this:
Terrorist threat concocted by media and the participating teams so as to increase viewership.
I hate to distrust the media and big time football schools so much, but both have given fair cause.

I would say go with the underdog. Or you could go for the place you lived the longest. Or you could go for the team that lost last time they played each other. Or you could do something crazy and go for the one that's in a town not named for a Psycho character. Any of those would work.

If, for some reason, I was to watch a game, I usually root for whichever team's cheerleaders have the lowest-cut shirts, or the sexiest underwear... it usually works out alright in the end...

I agree they hit the UW very hard for what happened: a couple of free baskets of fruit, some soft summer jobs from a booster in Los Angeles, and a loan from a booster so Billy Joe Hobert could buy a car. None of the infractions involved UW personnel, yet the UW took it in the shorts.

As long as they don't attack THE CLINTON LIBRARY. AMERICA WOULD BE DEVISTATED TO THE POINT OF NO RETURN.....heh heh heh...
To those attending the game, stay safe, stay alert. May our God be with you.

You might be on to something.
Besides, what terrorist would strike at a stadium full of gun-toting rednecks?

Yup... Jealousy was the main root, I believe... It's a shame, too, because the U-Dub was a powerhouse at that time, with very strong teams, great coaching, etc... The whole program was, IMHO, pretty much destroyed when it was done
