Federal law enforcement can carry weapons anywhere in the U.S. including airplanes and military bases.

That's a good question. I don't know. I guess they accepted his story and ID and then got the heebie jeebies. Maybe some of the passengers got jittery. Wouldn't be the first time the airlines asked some Arab/Arab Americans to get off the plane because of the passengers. Seeing a dark skinned passenger with a bulge under his coat might raise an eyebrow or two.
