There have been some other discussions of pop-up ad killers but I thought this would be worth posting.

I use
POW! (freeware) for popup ads. It works great. You can add new popup ads as they appear.

Try Naviscope (free)...it works great.

Pop-Up Stopper works ok for me but it won't distinguish between legitimate new windows and bothersome ones. If you enable it once the myriad of poppers start then you can back out of them without all that alt-control-del crap....
Just my 2 bits as a novice surfer.

you know.I hate pop ups too..but right now they are what are keeping alot of websites running..did a little research pop up pays an average of $2 per 1000 versus the 75 cents per 1000 for normal ads..go ahead kill the pop ups...it will catch on and alot of your favourite website will go out of business soon.

Try panicwares' Pop-up-stopper
HereIt's free and it works.

In my Linux system I am using Opera 6.0 TP2 for ordinary browsing. It has the option of allowing you to accept pop-ups, reject pop-ups or to open opo-ups in the background.
You don't even see the ones opened in the background unless you bring the background window to the foreground. You can kill it without beinging it forward.
This whole idea of pop-ups is a feature for which you ought to be grateful to those nice people at Redmond.

I use IE 6.0 and set my security settings to "HIGH". No more pop-ups. Simple, reliable and free.

Yes free republic is great but I have a gut feeling they will loose the lawsuit. Also even if they don't alot of the smaller conservative sites rely on what little income those pop ups provide..such as Enter Stage right for example.

The same annoying pop-ups appear on TV. Is there a way to kill these?

Do you know how to turn off java script (on a windows machine)? On Netscape go to edit...preferences...advanced...click off enable javascript. IE is the same with different terminology.

Just disable Java.

Hit CTRL W and the selected window (the one with the blue bar at the top) will close.
