I am preparing Christmas dinner for my children while monitoring this thread. My son was delayed getting home from Korea and didn't get here until Saturday. My daughter had just lost a friend, a 19 year old young man, in a car wreck, so she has been spending time with his family and girlfriend.

The funeral was today, so we waited to have our Christmas dinner. I'll be in and out for the next couple of hours, but will be back after that.

Joanie-f, IMHO one of the most eloquent Freepers there are, lost her Dad eight weeks ago. In her own words, "...he was my hero, and the most positive, uplifting influence in my life, especially during the last twenty years."

I know this Christmas has been very difficult for her and her three sisters--two of which are also Freepers (PAPatriots and BikerChick).

God Bless You for this thread. We can all mourn together for the people you mentioned, for those other people mentioned, for our friends who have suffered loss, and for our own dead.

The only way I know how to deal with it is having the promise from Jesus that we will all be able to meet again in Heaven. For those who do not have that promise, I don't know how they can keep from flipping out when a loved one dies. It's tough!

AG ... I'd like you to know that you are still in my prayers. I'd also like to thank you for the example you set during the time of your sister's illness and her final passing. I know that others drew strength from you.

For those so inclined, I'd like a special prayer for my friend whose son killed himself a couple of weeks ago. She is being "strong" right now, but she gets that strength from the Lord. When I wished her a Happy New Year but worried the greeting may be inappropriate, here is what she said:

( :<}) of course it isn't... we must walk in the land of the living and pray 2002 will bring with it healing and better things, amen, lov ya, DD

May we live by her example. Amen.

I am so sorry for the loss of your father, especially so close to the holidays. He must have been a wonderful man to have raised three FReepers. God bless you all.

Thanks for the ping, Minuteman23. I tried to reply to BikerChick as well, but I couldn't. My condolences to her, too.

it will be the first New Year's Eve in a very long time when I'll be alone.

Believe me, you will NOT be alone; you'll be right here with us.

Thanks again for your kind words.

And since this thread may get a lot of attention, let me take this time to BEG you all to get a carbon monoxide detector and USE it. Do it to remember Drew.
