NEWS STORY
Toddler says he saw angels

By BETH JOHNSTON
Gage Gabriel

As Gage Gabriel spent Christmas Eve shivering on a beach near his dead mother’s body, two angels floating above the waters of the Bay of Fundy smiled at him and kept him company, the toddler says.

“One of our officers was talking to him and he mentioned that he saw a couple of angels with wings on the water,” said Amherst RCMP Sgt. Dave Bogle.

“Anything’s possible, let’s face it, when you look at someone surviving a crash like that.”

Gabriel’s mother, Tobi Gabriel, was killed when her car flew off a cliff and landed on the rocky shore off Lower Cove Road near Joggins, Cumberland Co., between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Christmas Eve. But the three-year-old survived the crash, and a cold night alone on the beach.

He had frostbitten toes and a bump on his head, but was otherwise unharmed when a neighbour found him at 9 a.m. Christmas day.

Gage said the two “angels” appeared on the water where his mother’s lifeless body floated near her overturned car.

Tobi’s grandfather, Roy Gabriel, believes the angels saved his great-grandson’s life.

“He said he saw two women in white dresses standing in the water smiling at him all night,” Roy Gabriel said yesterday.

“That’s what kept him alive. If it wasn’t for that, the boy would have died there in the rain.”

Sgt. Bogle believes Gage’s story about the angels because he hadn’t talked to any adults when he told the tale.

“It sets you back on your heels in a way. He’s three-years-old — how could he come up with this? There’s a higher body than me or you.”

Anglican minister Mel Langille wasn’t surprised to hear Gage was comforted by angels that cold, dark night.

“Angels touch people’s lives quite often at times when we are most in need,” said the minister at Holy Trinity Church in Yarmouth.

“They were comforting him and keeping him from despair, and letting him feel the warmth of God’s love.”

A friend of mine told me of an experience he had while visiting the First Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, CA. There was a young child being baptised. And during the ceremony my friend glanced up into the side balcony and saw a distinctively beautiful and noble looking woman sitting alone who was solemnly engrossed in the baptism service. The unspoken question that immediately entered his head was "Is that an Angel?" He reports that at that very moment the "woman" turned and looked directly at him, smiled, nodded in affirmation, and then turned back to continue watching the baptism. My friend is a serious-minded person who would not be prone to make up something like this. I consider it very likely that he saw an Angel.

Amen brother:

"Continue to love each other like brothers and sisters, and remember always to welcome strangers, for by doing this, some people have entertained angels without knowing it" (Hebrews13:2).

That car fell 90 feet onto jagged rocks. This would have taken just under 3 seconds. Terminal velocity at touch-down was approximately 70 mph. The temperature was sub-freezing with coastal winds and heavy rain. High tide comes in about every 12 hours as the full and new moons near and covers the entire area below the cliff.

Sounds like a two-angel job to me. :-)

She said she wasn't afraid, that Jesus had held her hand. She described him as in a white robe with long hair. At 2 1/2 she had had little or no religious education but she was very calm and confindent in what she had experienced.

That's great.

By the way, your screenname is cool.

I read the article you sent just before getting ready for Mass. All the people and things I want to pray for can be summed up in one word...HOPE. And Gabriel's experience certainly exemplifies hope to me.

Thanks.

Please folks lets not corrupt this wonderful message with anger. The other thread of this story that is so beautiful has been ruined with bitterness and anger.

A ping of mslady too.

Now I usually don't relate this story because people laugh at me. And since it happened some 50+ years ago, even though I've tried, my memory admittedly is getting fuzzy as to the details.

Take it for what it's worth.

I swear I can remeber BEFORE I was born. I'm NOT kidding. When I was very young I used to tell the story to my Grandmother, who then told my Mom. All I can recall...without hurting my head...is being in a very beautiful place. Not architecurally beautiful if you will, and not a place with flowers and trees. The best way I can describe the impressions I recall now is to say a seemingly limitless area, yet with defined sections. Perhaps to say cloud-like is not too inaccurate.

A lot of light, but a soft almost grayish ambiance as opposed to what I will mention later.

In any case I recall being somewhat forceibly, but gently urged...even spoken to...toward a "down" area. Similar to, but not quite like a down staircase or even escalator.

And I remeber protesting, saying something like I didn't want to go...it wasn't fair...I wanted to stay where I was.

But several beings were holding me...again very gently and moving me toward the "down" area.

At the very top we stopped and everyone listened to me. One of the beings said to wait and left. Almost instantly it returned and said there was no going back...there could be no changes now...I had to go.

At that point I stopped resisting...said good-bye to the beings...I felt no animosity toward them for making me go BTW. In fact you might say there was a feeling of great communion or love among us.

I turned and started a journey down.

I recall being buffeted and touched. It was as if many hands were hlding me. Then I remeber something particularly curious. I swear it was the voices of my father and mother.

For what seemed like quite some time there was darkness, along with the occasional feeling of many hands and the voices.

My memory ends with loud noises and a horrible, bright, piercing light.

I always assumed that was the moment of birth.

Interestingly enough, and I would certaianly have no way of knowing this, before I left the hospital a doctor or nurse took it upon themselves to give me some kind of shot. To this day I can still recall a panic at being taken to a room..again with a very bright light..put on a table and something starting to be put in my neck or back.

I also recall my mother suddenly appearing...loud voices..and then being in her arms and safe again.

She later told me that there was a shot kids at that time were being given but she didn't want me to have. Being a registered nurse she could move about the hospital pretty much as she wanted. She told me she found out and came to get me. I don't recall her telling me what the shot was or if I got it.

Laugh or not...I don't care. I swear I grew up believing this and when I was very young used to LOVE to tell the story. As I grew older I began to refrain from the telling and as I said over the years I have forgotten more than I remember.

It could have been many things...an interpertaion of the birth experience...a pre-birth programing perhaps manifesting itself somehow.

Still the visions have haunted me all these years, and I wish I had written them down in more detail.

"Personally, I think this child must be marked for a special purpose in this life "

My thought exactly. I wonder what is in store for this youngster in the Lord's plan?
