Jesse Jackson Sued for Civil Rights Violations, Assault and Battery; Suit Alleges Conservative Black Activist Attacked at Meeting To: Assignment Desk, Daybook Editor Contact: Judicial Watch, 202-646-5172

News Advisory:

-- Jesse Jackson sued for civil rights violations and assault and battery -- Suit alleges conservative black activist Jesse Lee Peterson was attacked at meeting by Jackson, Jackson's son Jonathan, and Judge Mathis

What: Press Conference

Date: Jan. 17

Time: 12 Noon

Location: National Press Club The Zenger Room 529 14th St N.W. Washington D.C.

Details: Judicial Watch and civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson will hold a press conference tomorrow to announce the filing of a civil rights lawsuit against Jesse Jackson, his son Jonathan, Judge Mathis, and others. The press conference will be attended by Rev. Peterson and his counsel Larry Klayman, chairman and general counsel of Judicial Watch. Rev. Peterson heads BOND (The Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny). Judicial Watch is a public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes public corruption and abuse. The lawsuit will be filed today in state court in California and names Jesse Jackson, his son Jonathan, Gregory Mathis, and Rainbow/Push Coalition as defendants.

The lawsuit alleges the defendants, during a Dec. 10, 2001 public meeting to discuss the awarding of minority-oriented contracts by Toyota, surrounded and assaulted Rev. Peterson -- calling him "nigger" as they taunted and harmed him. Rev. Peterson is a nationally known conservative civil rights activist who has been critical of Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow/Push operation. At one point during the assault, Gregory Mathis, who hosts the nationally televised program "Judge Mathis," is alleged to have yelled "where's your buddy (Bill) O'Reilly (of Fox News) now?" (Rev. Peterson is a regular guest on the O'Reilly's program, "The O'Reilly Factor.")

"Jesse Jackson and his collaborators must be held accountable under the rule of law," stated Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.

I hate nuisance lawsuits, even when filed by the good guys.

I listened to Rev. Peterson on the radio a few days after the incident, his side of the story was Jackson was trying to shake down Toyota, the Rev asked why money was only going to be going to Jacksons' party. After the meeting, Jackson, his son and the Judge got rough with Peterson. I'd just love to see Jackson taken down a knotch.

The suit would have more credibility without J-Watch being involved.

Rev. Peterson was ASSAULTED at that Toyota meeting.

I whole-heartedly agree with you. Any lawsuit Larry Klayman files lacks credibility.

If this suit does nothing more than expose Jackson and his gangsters to public ridicule, it will have been worth while. You can dress a thug up in an Armani suit, but you've still got a legbreaker. Jesse's just moved from shaking down the back room to shaking down the board room.

The Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, or BOND, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization, will hold its third annual "National Day of Repudiation of Jesse Jackson" this month.

The event is scheduled for Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 21, in front of the offices of Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH in the City of Angels. The Rev. Jesse Peterson, founder and leader of BOND, has said the event will be held every year "until Jesse Jackson repents of his wrongs."

Jesse Peterson

Peterson's group has long been a critic of Jackson, arguing that the Chicago-based civil rights leader is little more than a "shakedown artist" who uses his political clout and influence to "pressure major corporations" into donating to his Rainbow/PUSH Coalition charities.

“Jackson’s racist and thug-like conduct over the past 30 years has severely damaged race relations and nearly destroyed black Americans,” said Peterson.

According to a statement from BOND, speaking at this year's event will be Peterson; WorldNetDaily columnist Jane Chastain; Terry Anderson, immigration control activist and radio talk-show host; Ted Hayes, activist for the homeless and radio talk-show host; and Pastor Wiley Drake of the First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park, Calif..."

He has a good case and I hope it's successful. I don't like "nuisance" cases either, but someone has to stop the race-baiting thug (jesse j). Jesse P.'s group actually does good for people, not just about stealing spotlights and lining pocket$

I'll send a small donation to JW for this case.
Rev. Peterson needs all the help he can get.
