CLINTON LEGACY,...... MORAL DECAY OF AMERICA
1 FELLOW FREEPER ^

Posted on 01/20/2002 7:59:41 AM PST by 1 FELLOW FREEPER

An entire generation has now grown up watching former President Clinton lie, cheat and steal.A fellow freeper, Uncle George posted the following this morning on another thread

"When the president of the United States said under oath" Idid not VOLUNTEER any information, it was up to the questioner to inquire properly". This statement was the beginning of the judicial and moral decay of America".

The fact is, this country as a whole has declined in honesty and integrity over the past 8 years. When I shop at the grocery store, I add up the cost in my head for each item, so when I get to the checkout, I will catch them overcharging me. One out of every 4 times last year!!

It also is becoming more difficult to make business deals, as many now honor them only if it gives them an advantage. Lying is epidemic, especially from those under 50.I find myself seeking out contracts with those over 60 years old, as they are far less likely to rip me off.

When you have a President who is indestinguishable from a gangster, and he walks away scott free with 18 million dollars, what does that teach the younger members of society? Well I have seen it, and it ain't pretty. Would like to hear from other freepers on this

The rot goes back much farther. The Civil War undoubtedly did great harm to American character. A keen observer like Albert Jay Nock noted that by the year 1900, the reigning American philosophy boiled down to "Go get yours." Classical education with the mission of transmitting civic and moral values had already been replaced by progressive, vocational training. By 1932, the idea of free, responsible citizens under limited government had been overwhelmed by Old World socialism. The value of life had diminished to the vanishing point (Nock again), and we can hardly be surprised that a few decades later, abortion and euthanasia came to be accepted.

Bill Clinton typifies the degeneracy of the age, but he certainly didn't invent it.

I knew nothing of BillyJeff until I heard that he was going to run for President in 1992. Then I started a little research and realized very quickly that he was nothing more than a classic southern conman. I was born and raised in South Carolina and I know the type very well but he is the quintessence. His type could never carry the whole south but the northeastern liberal types believe everything the scumbag says. It amazes me that these people who think they are so smart are so easily outwitted by someone who could never fool a genuine working man with a high school education. Where I differ from your opinion is that I consider him more of a symptom than a cause of moral decay. Only a nation which has already lost its bearings would elect someone like this twice in a row. Unfortunately, free elections mean little when any and everyone is allowed to vote. Earlier generations knew what they were doing when they restricted the vote to male property owners who could demonstrate an ability to read and understand the constitution. It grieves me to say this but I believe this nation is doomed to dissolution and there is no turning back. To save this country would require a whole new start, meaning wipe all legislation off the book and return to laws based on the original intent of the constitution and I estimate the chance of that happening to be slim to none and slim has left town.

I also found him to be THE most transparent liar, well before he was first elected. Where was the average American though?

I can't agree with that. Half of America fawned all over him, the other half despised and resisted him. Certainly nobody in Free Republic "shrugged." We fought him!

""Moral decay in America is found equally in all walks of life""

If you find political correctness and liberalism indestinguishable in the cause of moral decay, you are part of the problem, not the solution.

While Clinton certainly oversaw the continuing decline in American morality, I would put the starting point a few years in the past. Franklin D Roosevelt, who may have been revered in his time, but will now be reviled, was the father of the modern welfare state in America. I consider FDR to be the worst president of the century and the person who put us on the road to financial, as well as moral, ruination.

FDR was a disaster, but the outright PROMOTION of just about every evil in society was done by Clinton.

""Morals are a private matter and are exempt from any political calculations""

I maintain that every human being knows right from wrong(sociopaths exempted). The liberal left just chooses to ignore morality, as it interferes with their pleasures. Therefore, they promote the antithesis of morality, which ends in decadence

"...I consider him more of a symptom than a cause of moral decay. Only a nation which has already lost its bearings would elect someone like this twice in a row."

That one's hard to argue with, 1f2
Facts are facts, y'know.

"Unfortunately, free elections mean little when any and everyone is allowed to vote."

Yup; "A Republic M'dam; IF you can keep it."

"Earlier generations knew what they were doing when they restricted the vote to male property owners who could demonstrate an ability to read and understand the constitution."

Perhaps, Sir.
However, *corruption* isn't new; moral or otherwise.
There was plenty of hijinxs to go 'round even then when only male property owners were allowed the vote.
NOT saying you're wrong, per se; just saying slicksters have been with us, like bad weather, since the Garden of Eden.

"It grieves me to say this but I believe this nation is doomed to dissolution and there is no turning back. To save this country would require a..."

Yea, well; maybe & maybe not.
Grieves me to say we're going to find out, alright; & quite possibly before many of us Boomers have the *chance* to bail-out via the undertaker, too.

...& one thing's for absolute certain, we're going to get the government we deserve; because, those are the rules.

I think that perhaps the lying, perverted, accused raptist, traitor, degenerate William Jefferson Clinton, perhaps did us a favor.
It did not seem so at the time, but now, he made a lot of Americans realize, that the left-wing, liberal media is really and truly biased.
There are a lot of young Americans who have been led astray by the rotten role model, but many look at Dubya as their role model now.
I did not think it was going to happen, but now feel clean again.

True -- true.
But that Liberal snake in the grass has had plenty of help from across the isle; at least from what I've seen.

...the Liberal SOB is just in a bigger hurry to get us all to Hell, is all. ;^)

I love your adjectives. I noticed you did not misplace your modifier, while Clinton dangled his participle!!
