MOTHER ANGELICA IS RETURNED TO INTENSIVE CARE, BUT HER DOCTORS SAY SHE COULD LEAVE THE HOSPITAL BY THIS WEEKEND

Irondale, AL (EWTN) - Mother Angelica was returned to Intensive Care at a Birmingham, Alabama hospital this past weekend after doctors inserted a filter device in her lower leg to screen and prevent the movement of a blood clot that had formed there. Doctors said they returned Mother to Intensive Care so she could receive closer observation while she recovers from the brain hemorrhage and stroke she suffered at her monastery in Hanceville on Christmas Eve. She remains in stable and fair condition and is continuing physical and speech therapy. Although the minor procedure was considered a slight setback, doctors said she is still improving each day and might be discharged from the hospital as early as this weekend.

Doctors also said Mother Angelica made clear to them that when she is discharged from the hospital that she would continue her therapy at her monastery and not at a rehabilitation center.

Mother Vicar, Sister Mary Catherine, said the nuns are anxiously awaiting Mother's return and ask everyone who is praying for Mother Angelica to continue doing so.

Since a Spiritual Bouquet of prayers for Mother Angelica was made available on EWTN's web site (www.ewtn.com) a week-and-a-half ago, more than 124,000 Rosaries, 20,000 Novenas, 68,000 Masses, 78,000 Holy Communions, 31,000 Holy Hours and 218,000 Our Fathers and other prayers have been offered for her recovery.

Thanks for the info on The Abundant Life. I won't be able to catch Part 1, but I will definitely catch Part 2.

Thanks also for posting the latest update on Mother Angelica's condition. I was out of town and offline on Tuesday because I went to DC to participate in the March for Life. It was a beautiful day and quite memorable to be in a sea of pro-lifers marching up Constituion Ave. Several FReepers met before the march. You can read their accounts of the experience - FReepers Report on National March for Life - January 22, 2002.
