THAT STRANGE SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

You know the one I'm talking about --- that nut-case that took 13 children on a joy ride from Pennsylvania to Maryland yesterday. He said that he was taking them to see Washington D.C. Evidently he treated the kids well. There were several pee pee breaks on the way to Maryland, and he bought them all hamburgers. When the cops finally caught up with him they found a loaded shotgun wrapped up in his coat.
OK - this is an election year. So, what can we expect from our legislation-happy bureaucrats in Washington? Two things, I think. First, Senators Ed Markey and Hitlary Clinton will introduce legislation demanding the federalization of all school bus drivers. Then someone else will want the Department of Transportation to take control of all school bus operations. As soon as this is done the Transportation Security Agency will be given the responsibility of guarantying school bus security and will mandate that all school bus drivers, federal employees or not, will be searched before they are allowed to board the bus.
Remember - in these times there is no newsworthy event that will fail to bring a call for some new federal legislation.

Sadly, I think his last statement is dead on. We have the worst bunch of shameless opportunists in Congress today. Every day's headlines is another chance to increase the power of the federal government.

People often laugh at Limbaugh and Boortz for the wild predictions they make. Case in point... taxing fatty food and suing the producers of it. Well, Limbaugh has been saying that was gonna happen for the better part of a decade.
Guess what one of the topics on Hannity & Colmes last night and has been in head line stories for the past few days?
Boortz, during the initial stages of the Anthrax in the mail scare made a prediction. He predicted that the DC post office workers at the PO that processed the letter to Daschle with Anthrax in it would claim racism for the reason the PO was not immediatly shut down and all workers given antibiotics. Guess how long it took to come true... 2 days.
I could go on and on and on with "wild" predictions they have made that quickly came true. We all know about them. And would anyone reading this honestly be surprised if there wasnt some push made to make school bus drivers federal workers? The more I think about it, the more I will be surprised if they dont!

You took the words right out of my mouth. I'd be very surprised if we don't see Hillary pushing this in the next day or so.

I used to drive a school bus :) I would take a route detour for the kids on their way home. We would drive down the alley behind a McDonald's to hit the speed bumps. It was a blast. No harm done, kids were fine. It was only one block off the route. I did lose the job (but not for that reason). This guy was a little off his nut, and who knows what would have happened if more time had passed.
I wonder if anyone will ask what school district and route I drove. hehehehe

Not sure. They do a better background check (at least in these parts) on bus drivers than they do on prospective airport security employees. Nice to know, eh?

He said that he was taking them to see Washington D.C. Evidently he treated the kids well. There were several pee pee breaks on the way to Maryland, and he bought them all hamburgers.several things...Conditions are better in Guantanamo.....were the restrooms clean.......did he consider the dietary/religious needs of the children before he stopped for burgers.....BK or McD's ?

"This guy was a little off his nut,..."
That was my thought as soon as they announced that they found the bus. Nothing that I have read or heard indicates that he threatened or harmed them in any way. If the kids knew the guy and they were having fun, they'll have a great story to tell their grandkids.
Yep, the guy was off his nut for doing this and he should lose his job and maybe spend some time talking to people in white coats, but think about it. What a great way to spend a sunny afternoon in January instead of being in school. Before the flames start, if I was one of the parents I would not be so light hearted about this and I would want the guy's head, too.

The reason for Limabugh's and Boortz' successful predictions of liberal behavior is their understanding of the liberal mindset.
I've been working on achieving this understanding, but it's hard due to its complete lack of logic.
I see why Limabugh and Boortz get paid the big bucks.

Liberals are easy to figure out. Throw out logic and thought. Go strictly on emotions. And whenever something bad happens repeat to yourself... there oughta be a law.

If the kids knew the guy and they were having fun, they'll have a great story to tell their grandkids. If they were having fun, they wouldn't have flagged down a total stranger for help. The younger kids may not have understood what was happening, but the older ones surely did.

From what I understand, they didn't 'flag down' anyone - he turned himself in to a cop sitting in his police car...

Perhaps the weapon was to defend against possible highjackers or terrorist bombers. I am sure every Israeli school bus driver is armed,

The reports yesterday afternoon said the kids were waving frantically at the off-duty cop through the bus windows, while the driver was inside the truck stop or whatever it was. The cop wasn't in uniform, so they wouldn't have known he was a policeman. Perhaps it was the first time they were all alone without the driver present.
I don't really believe that all the guy had in mind was taking the kiddies to the Smithsonian, do you?

Perhaps the weapon was to defend against possible highjackers or terrorist bombersYes, and perhaps he was driving them across state lines without their parents' consent in order to better protect them, too. There's more military and Secret Service types in DC than in Reading PA, after all.
Honestly, how many of you excuse-makers on this thread were born yesterday? I am astonished.

Hey, it was a joke.

No I don't believe he had 'honourable intentions', but as I stated before, later reports came out, here on FR, from local sources (i.e. local in the town this originated in) that seemed to indicate that while they were at a rest stop, the driver simply walked over to a cop car and turned himself in... The 'The kids tried to flag down strangers' story was dismissed...
I don't know which story is true, but I tend to believe the local sources more-so than the national media... it's a character flaw in me, I know... ;0)

Hey, it was a joke. The sad part is you had to come back and say it was a joke! Blackbird.
