"As Senator Clinton has said, she is not running for president; she is working hard in the Senate for the people of New York," said Clinton spokeswoman Karen Dunn when asked about the poll.

Republican consultant Jay Severin said that Clinton's decision to hold a fund-raiser in Washington next month for Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack is evidence that the senator is preparing to run for president in 2008.

"She's going to collect chits," Severin said Monday. "The biggest George Bush fan in America right now for '04 is Hillary Clinton. She needs Bush to win in '04 so there is the combination of an open seat and a rational for her being the rebuilder and savior of the Democratic Party. I'll bet my house she's running in '08."

This statement is completely meaningless. Right now, at this exact moment, Hillary is not stumping the country wildly in an attempt to get elected President. She has not filed with the FEC. Ergo, in the narrowest definition of the term "running", Hillary is not running for President.

Of course, we all know here that she is feverishly preparing for her lifelong ambition of being elected President. I think she could win the Democratic nomination and be a credible candidate. I would welcome the fight though, as this would be a clear choice between two radically different worldviews.

I predict the "chickens will come home to roost" and her political career will be torpedoed by one of her previous shady deals that still hasn't been made public as of today.
