CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Jamie Sale and David Pelletier have been chosen as Canada's flag-bearers for Sunday's Olympic Closing Ceremonies.
Sale, a native of Red Deer, Alta., and Pelletier, of Sayabec, Que., were selected to carry the maple leaf in a vote by fellow Team Canada athletes.
"This is the biggest honour I have ever received because it come from my peers," Pelletier told Canadian Press.
Pelletier was quick to add that the honour could just as easily have been given to short-track speed skater and double gold-medallist Marc Gagnon, to cross-country skier Beckie Scott, who was the first North American to win a medal in her sport, or to the gold-medal winning women's hockey team.
"We'll carry the flag on behalf of all the athletes," said Sale, noting that Olympic success belongs not just to the competitors but also to the hundreds of volunteers, coaches and support staff.
Saturday's announcement was made at a gala event attended by Olympic team members where Kingston, Ont. rock band Tragically Hip performed a live concert.
Sale and Pelletier won the gold medal in pairs figure skating, but only after a messy scandal over judging in their event -- a controversy that threatened to overshadow the rest of the Games.
Speed skater Catriona Le May Doan carried Canada's flag in the Opening Ceremonies two weeks ago.
Unless the US team chooses Sarah Hughes, in which case they might choose their silver medal winner in ladies figure skating.
Decisions, decisions!
When you win a controversy, don't rub the other side's nose in it. It will come back to bite you.

Yeah, forget that. Takes too much labour.
While that's good humor, number 14, keep your vowels to yourself.
By "Canadians" I meant the team as well as the pair.
Your remark is one instance where "children should be seen, not heard" has definite application.
Most, if not all, of the players on the Expos are either from the USA or foreign countries. The mockery, therefore, is of your own players.
And by the way, those college kids can't possibly be drunk, unless they've managed to acquire some Canadian beer. There's no way you could get drunk on the piss water you pass off as booze, unless ofcourse you were a pansy.
