Danville -- Now this surprised and amazed. Ever elusive Dick Cheney on Wednesday decided to emerge from Area 51 - or whatever undisclosed, super-secret location at which he lays his shiny head down to sleep - for a stop in Pleasanton to campaign for pal Richard Pombo, the Tracy congressman whom Cheney's boss has charmingly nicknamed "Marlboro Man."

I love W's nickname for Pombo "Marlboro Man".

Also Pombo's extreme views seem just fine to me.

Maybe a minor barf alert would be approiate here. On the other hand, you did mention the source.

Good point.

However, I do think that the whole article points out the absurdity of the opposition.

" Co-founder of the Portuguese Caucus, a coalition of 35 members of Congress who promote positive Portuguese-American relations. Pombo was awarded The Grand Order of Infante D. Henrique, the highest civilian honor that is bestowed by the Portuguese government, in recognition of his efforts to improve Portuguese-American relations. "

"Look at his property-rights views," Shaw said. "He thinks you should be able to do whatever you want. But you can't control sprawl and have his philosophy on property rights. They can't coexist peacefully. It's extreme."

That might be one of the most frightening things I have read on FR in a long while..what a campaign slogan.."Vote for me..I'll tell you what to do with your property!!!"

I agree. It is incredible that she think her view is not the extreme view.

I must be an extremist based on her complaints. I agree with Pombo--it's my property NOT the governments and the Dept. of Educ. has failed miserably. Time to do away with it and start over.

Pombo's views seem fine to me, also. Since the dems redistricting, his district stretches a long way. I'm not in the same district as the 3 closest cities to me, but am in the same district as my sister who lives 100 miles away. He's got my vote.

I believe my sister will be voting for Pombo also. She always listens to her older sister.

Sometimes I just have to shake my head and wonder. Can they really label advocacy of property rights as extreme? I mean I could understand the communist era Pravda or the Beijing Times doing something like this, but in America?

It's scary.

I know, it is stange. The world is upside down. Black is white. Up is down. The liberals view of normalcy.
