Well, you know yourself best, but I'll give you this on-the-other-hander. My wife and I are longtime LOTR fans, having read the books probably easily a half-dozen times, if not more. And we thoroughly enjoy the movie (she's been 10X, I 11X).
But both of us wish we could have the experience of seeing the movie knowing nothing. Yes, even as it is, I was still in tears on my eleventh viewing, even though I knew (because I knew?) what was coming. But nothing can replace the thrill of discovery, of total surprise.
All that to say you might reconsider! You only get one first time.

I have seen two movies in the past two years--"Harry Potter" (awful) and "A Beautiful Mind" (not awful). I had free passes to both specific movies. My husband has seen one movie in that time--"LOTR." I cannot, for the life of me, remember when we last saw a movie together.
We really need to get a babysitter!!!
