Why does the media refer to our President of the United States as, "Mr. Bush?"
The folks on Fox News still refer to President George W. Bush as, "Mr. Bush."
President Bush is our American President.
TOPICS: Editorial; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS:
The President of the United States of America is George Walker Bush; and he should be addressed and referred to as "Mr. President"; "President Bush," not "Mr. Bush."The media still refers to Clinton as "president;" which we all know is a disgusting thought.
Our family invites your thoughts.

I've heard interchangeable titles referred to both men:
Mr. Bush, Mr. Clinton
President Bush, President Clinton
Incidentally, all Presidents keep the title of Mr. President, even after they leave office. I would assume the only exception would be a President REMOVED from office.

Well at least they have not yet sunk to the level we all reached with clintoon. Even the press just called him clinton near the end. Not even a capital. And only the wild eyed radical left is making up funny names for President Bush now, when with clintoon it was a national passtime.

The folks on Fox News still refer to President George W. Bush as, "Mr. Bush." Sorry to hear Fox joined with CNN who has been calling him Mr. Bush since he won the election (yet Governor Bush prior) but always refers to X42 as President Clinton.

I know. That's why I always try to remember to refer to him as "President Bush" in conversation. If people hear this enough in everyday speech, it will seem odd to them when they hear "Mr. Bush" on the evening news and talk shows.

Could not agree more. MSNBC makes a point of using the phrase 'The Bush Administration,' whenever they are forced to report on something President Bush has done. Any time they can make it look like he wasn't even there, they will do it. What they are trying to do is de-humanize the guy, implying that we don't even have a real live human man up there as our President, but instead are governed by some faceless, and even slightly sinister, committee.

I agree! And I sure wish somebody would have a talk with Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity about this! They don't even have the courtesy of referring to President Bush as "Mr Bush", just "Bush." I think it's arrogance on their part!
To: Cobra64
As long as George W. Bush is THE President I will refer to him as President Bush or "The President". If I'm ever fortunate enough to meet him in person ,I will refer to him as "Mr. President" and practice all the good manners my mother tried to instill in me.

This has been bothering me too. I think I'll just start writing everyone and complain. I love it though, when Shepard Smith reports the news on Bush. He always calls him our Commander-in-Chief, I can't remember if he then adds President Bush or Bush, but it is always CIC.
To: Cobra64
The more high end newspapers, whether liberal or conservative do this. They address a man by his title and then call him Mr. so-and-so after that. I think it's normal protocol.

In any story, I believe it is proper for the first reference to be President Bush. After that, I think it is okay to say the president or Mr. Bush.
To: Cobra64
oh please, we find so many media bias against Bush everyday but this just isn't one of them. Get yourself some old editions of NY Times and Washingtonpost and check for yourself how many times Mr. Clinton or Mr. Kennedy(JFK) were used. Even CNN called Clinton as Mr. during his presidency countless times.
To: Cobra64
Mr. Bush is a sign of respect. I don't have an issue with it as long as they use both titles...."President Bush" and "Mr. Bush" when they refer to him, not just "Mr. Bush" during the entire story.

I agree. For heaven's sakes, you don't say the same exact title for a person 100 times in a story. I think saying "Mr. Bush" AFTER using the official term "President Bush" is perfectly okay. It is done in the professional press for other people as well. I do it myself when I write stories for the high school paper and would do the same if I had to write about the President.

I think it will be more fun if I dont warn them! LOL

Yes, I think we're sensitive to it because of Clinton's disrespect for Bush41 in 1992 (never calling him President Bush), but I think the more high-end newspapers have been consistant.
