FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.- The FBI has issued an arrest warrant for Rep. Gary Condit's younger brother on charges that he fled Florida to avoid prosecution.
In his latest legal troubles, Darrell Wayne Condit failed to appear in court in November on a charge of possession of a fraudulent identification card, FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said Saturday.
The charges stem from a Sept. 7 arrest in which Condit, 50, was charged with having an unlawfully issued driver's license.
Three months earlier, he was arrested in Broward County on a warrant for failing to meet probation conditions of a 1996 DUI arrest. The Broward Sheriff's Office also charged him with resisting arrest without violence, driving with a suspended license and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
FBI investigators believe Condit, who was living in Fort Lauderdale, may be now in Modesto, Calif., part of his congressman brother's district.
Gary Condit, who lost Tuesday's Democratic primary, has been under intense national scrutiny over his relationship with Washington intern Chandra Levy, who disappeared in May. Police sources have said that the congressman admitted having an affair with Levy but that he is not a suspect in her disappearance.
Darrell Condit's attorney, John Sale, has said his client knew nothing about the Levy case.
Sale said Saturday that he has not spoken to Condit since November.
BTW, welcome to FR!
Someone on another thread asked who issues the phony drivers licence.
Wouldn't it be interesting if it came from one of the same sources the terrorists used?
.
Is the FBI gonna start canvassing college campus taverns for fake IDs?
