Since the shift from a manufacturing economy to a service economy, it has become increasingly necessary for women to contribute to the household income. And even if this were not the case, far be it from anyone to tell me where I belong, or where you belong.

I actually find it a bit incredulous that American men do 16 hours of household chores (unless they keep tabs like my son does--he takes 90 minutes to do 15 minutes worth of dishes).

How many men does it take to clean a bathroom?

None. That's women's work.

It is God who tells us where we belong. You don't like your role in life? Too bad. Shirk your responsibility and in 20 years we will see whos kids are doing better. You need to think more about the needs of the children and I'm not talking about money either. Money is not important.

I do NOT do laundry, never.

And.....there are probably GOOD reasons for that! *chuckle* (pink briefs come to mind)

They use water filtration (like a giant bong) instead of bags and filters.

It sounds like you could get very hungry while vacuuming.

That depends on what the meaning of "your wife" is!

You know, "your wife" is the person who takes your paycheck and finds all kinds of uses for it......lol

Sure we are....my husband makes the money, I stay home with 4 homeschooled kids. I used to be one of those who expected him to become Hazel Homemaker when he was home.

That was many years ago. He doesn't expect me, nor should he, to contribute to his job in any way. Why should he have to contribute to mine? We each took on these roles voluntarily and it works just fine for us.

Of course, the house is a disaster and dinner is often...well....interesting, but that's another story.

I wonder if they also did a study on just how many hours per week each gender does, paying for the house and it's expenses. Isn't this 'house work' too?

Very interesting article, I don't really care about a bunch of statistics though. My wife and I maintian two households as our home is in FL and my work keeps me Atlanta. My wife is an accountant and works very hard and long hours as I do. We spend weekends together when we can and I help her with housework as much as possible when I am there. I do this because I Love Her and will do anything to help her. We also have raise 4 children together, the youngest being our daugther who is now 22.

We have an apartment in Atlanta that I maintain on a regular basis which means that I vacuum, cook, clean bathrooms, do dishes and laundry on a daily basis. When I am in FL I help her do the same there, we share cooking and cleaning and we share grocery shopping together and apart as needs demand.

I also spent several days steam cleaning all the carpets in our FL home prior to Christmas to perpare the house for guests etc. My wife was busy getting extra bedding together and managing the meals etc. for our guests. We both took turns with the cooking and cleaning chores and we both had our turn with dishpan hands.*S* I suggest to you that this man and his woman spend more time with housework than any of those in your statistics. I suggest about 40+ hours a week each with all the work to be done and we haven't gotten to the yard work yet or the addition that we built to the house last OCT. etc. or the fact that I wired more lights and security etc.

I think we have your stats beat by a long shot here and you will please note that I said WE and not I. WE work our tails off for each other and we both have learned to appreciate it and have found that it is a great blessing to us both.*S* If you and your spouse or significant other are not doing that now then I can only hope and pray that you find kind of realtionship of love and appreciation for each other.

It is not unusual for this man to spend many hours a week and drive 5 hours one way on a weekend to help his wife do these chores, amoung other things of course.*EG* My incentive to do this is very simple, I really do Love my wife and family and she/they feel the same way. I thank GOD for them too as they are a real comfort to me.

GOD Bless you all,

RAWGUY

When the wifey makes me do the vacuuming, I get the trusty Shop Vac out. It outsucks all them fancy whimpy vacuum clearners.
