Thats true. What a scary thought! But sometimes if I am near an overpass I usually stop under it and wait the storm out. Fog is a different story. You can't really wait for the fog to lift.
ROFLMAO!!!! You're so funny! I forgot how dramatic I can be, but that's what happened!! *grins* And I do remember telling you about it, too! I was TERRIFIED! ;-)
Did I mention the story about when we were going to Chicago for my sister-in-law's wedding and got stuck in the valley between Monteagle and Nashville when that 100-mile east to west storm embedded with hundreds of little tornadoes came through and I had my weather radio on and we had to stop at a truckstop for 6 hours???
Living in GA, the drivers I'm most afraid of are the ones from up north who are driving in the snow. The problem is they are used to driving on roads that have been properly plowed and salted. Since it only snows a couple of times a year in GA, pretty much nothing is done to clear the roads when it snows. They see a light snow and think "that shouldn't be a big deal", but it is.
You're right about some SUV drivers being overconfident. A SUV may be better at getting you out of trouble, or keeping you safe in an accident, but the best way to stay out of trouble is to avoid putting yourself into situations that might get you into trouble to begin with.
Drivers in your rear could assume you were stopped and/or on the shoulder and steer to your left assuming that is where the driving lane is. Continuing to move would throw off their depth perception of traffic in general.
Turn on your tail light -- tap your brake at an irregular interval to make drivers to your rear cautious -- forget the flashers.
My sister went to school in KY, and my brother went to UT, and my other brother went to ASU (Appalachian State University)...I hated making road trips to see them. Sheesh..it always took 4 hours LONGER than it should have. ;-)
And I won't mention the time we were in Boone, NC and my father took us on a "sightseeing" tour of Grandfather Mountain. Just put it this way: the whole family is lucky to be alive....;-)

The truth of the matter the SUVs are probably the most dangerous vehicles on the interstate. They are unstable and turn over at a rate four times greater then sedans. They also become the battering rams that kill and maim all those unfortunate enough to be hit by them. Add to this the careless attitudes of many of the macho type who drive them and you have the most dangerous vehicle package on the road. When will insurance companies take notice and charge them insurance rates commensurate to the danger they pose to others, themselves and their passengers.
Possibly some radar detector company could add electronics to provide audio alerts of imminent collisions. I would buy one.
Improper use of those lights!!! Those blinkers are intended for parking along the side of the road ONLY! When used in motion, your vehicle is visible to other drivers only 50% of the time. An ocean of those blinking lights makes it impossible to tell when actual braking occurs.
Agree with that. But the real scary part is us sitting in our Accords can't see in front of them, and are totally dependent upon their ability to see and stop, or avoid, or to create an accident that we can't ditch away from.
Then when they come at you at night the blinding headlights put you at risk of hitting something unexpectedly.
What's the fascination with these things that suck up gas, and normally have one passenger who never takes it off the road?
Every SUV in my area is being driven by a lone woman glued to a cellphone and using one hand to steer. Their road habits are a sociologist's dream study.
1) They are large. People like large cars.
2) They are useful. People like useful cars.
Yes, a lot of them are driven by idiots. Unfortunately, no one has ever come up with a good way of keeping the idiots away from the same things sane people enjoy responsibly.
A lot of people really like the word "ban." I think such people are not worth spitting on.
