IMA - By Feb. 18, word had spread through Peru's prison system that a group of leftist rebel inmates had launched a hunger strike to demand better conditions for political prisoners.

New York native Lori Berenson, who was serving time on terrorism-related charges, faced a choice. She could ignore the strike, which included members of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, the group she had been convicted of aiding. Or she could join it and risk antagonizing the Peruvian Supreme Court, which was considering her appeal of her 20-year prison term.

Just another leftist that left N.Y. to help the revolution. One of how many, 1 maybe 2. I can see multitudes of yanks rushing down there to foment revolution. Who cares? She made her bed now let her lie in it.

What a brilliant strategy!

I guess she figured solidarity with her terrorist friends was more important that freedom. She's right where she deserves to be.

Cry me a river. Glad she isn't here, or she'd be out disrupting someone's life in a "protest", or clogging the court system somewhere. Good riddance.

You're right, better there than here.

Some people are born to be victims.

If she were here in evil capitalist America she might start to enjoy life too much....better, in her eyes to be a "martyr". Better for us too!

The public ''should provide no more sympathy and support for Lori Berenson than for John Walker Lindh,''

Yep, two wacko's. I imagine there will be pleas to spare him the horrors of prison. It's too bad they've ruled out the DP for Johnny Taliban, imho, a firing squad would have been a just reward for him.

The political bigotry in this article is obvious. Appeals courts work on the basis of documents filed and arguments made. The article notes that Berenson issued her statement supporting the hunger strike by her terrorist friends, "hours before" the Supreme Court pf Peru denied her appeal.

That Court already had the documents, had heard the arguments, had decided the case and written the opinion before the day it was released. Any moron who thought about it for an instant would have realized that her participation in the hunger strike had nothing to do with the denial of the appeal.

But the writer of the article didn't care about accuracy. Neither did the editor who published it, It is, after all, only the Boston Globe. The facts are false but the politics are suitably leftwing, so publish the puppy.

My general disrespect for the American media has grown in the four years I've participated in FreeRepublic. The reason is that now I regularly read dozens of newspapers, rather than just four. I used to tell myself that the Baltimore Sun was an exception to the rule, a good paper gone bad in the pursuit of political correctness. I've since discovered that the Sun is the rule, not the exception. Most daily newspapers are just as bad.

How many folks in Baltimore realize that their daily paper is a bucket of codswallop? How many folks in Boston, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, know the same thing?

Berenson joined the strike. In a statement announcing her move, she excoriated Peru for implementing ''policies of repression within the prison system.'' Hours later, the Supreme Court upheld her sentence.

Good.

How can we get the message out?

One of the blessings leftists like this bitc* give us is their blind belief they are the "superior intellect", and thus with this belief firmly burned into their thought process, manage to stumble right into circumstances which the most retarded of geese would avoid ... LOL!

The New York Post regularly points out the lies of the New York Times, for which I'm very thankful.

I read this and think immediately of her parents. What in the world were the Berenson's thinking to let their daughter go to a foreign country to be a "social activist"? What does that even mean except trouble and danger?

John Walker Lindt...Lori Berenson....Chelsea Clinton...
what do these three have in common? Twisted parents!!

In this case, the parents have made clear they share their daughter's views. That would also apply to Chelsea. The parents of Johnny Walker wanted only to be rid of him so they could go on leading their own lives.

I hope nobody was surprised by this. She IS a Marxist, and she is guilty as hell. There was another of these elitist northeast rich bitches on tv this weekend whining about how HER Marxist guerilla leader husband had been "murdered" by Guatamelian (sp) troops several years ago,and that the CIA had helped cover it up. She is sueing the US gooberment over this. She is a Harvard Law graduate,a damn good-looking woman, and another whiney Marxist rich bitch. The terrorist she married was said to be illiterate, and she was portrayed as some noble woman trying to recover her beloved husband's body. She only married the SOB for the status it would give her with her rich NY Marxist friends, and his death is only the excuse she is using to sue the US goverment. I'd love to know her family political connections.
