Tri-State(NY/NJ/CT)-

The Tri-State Chapter had two big freeps after the 9/11 attack: The first, at Union Square, to protest a peace rally, was on October 7 and was organized by firebrand. We had a huge turnout and a lot of support from passersby, and this notice in the New York Times:

<<About 50 counter-demonstrators followed the marchers, holding up placards that read "Traitors: Welcome to New York" and other slogans. A number of cars honked and held up traffic, responding to signs reading "Honk if you love America." One man held up a sign reading "Smile! You're starring in the next Taliban propaganda film.">>

The second was on October 27, near Times Square, and was organized by NYC GOP Chick.

The Tri-State chapter also helped organize and populate the big UN rally on July 14, to protest the proposed UN gun regulations that would supersede our Constitution. Freepers came from as far away as Washington State.

The February 2 rally to protest the WEF protestors was organized by Oschisms and drew more than 30 people on a bitterly cold day.

Two solo freeps by firebrand---one at Fox News, to counteract a rally purporting bias by Fox News, and one at the Christmas Tree at Rock Center, to protest yet another peace demonstrations---also took place, the second covered by NipponTV.

Members of Tri-State went across the river to NJ before the November election to help get out the vote for Schundler, and joined the stalwart NJ Schundler supporters there.

These are the high points of our year. As our friendships grow in number and strength, we hope to have bigger and better rallies in the future. We have a core of faithful activists and more joining the fun all along. We intend to have as positive effect as possible on the 2002 elections.

Washington, D.C.-
Here is a summary of the actions taken by the D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com for the year 2001:

Completed our 28th month of consecutive Saturday White House protests against the Clinton administration. Hosted special White House protests the last two nights of the Clintons' reign: Bill Clinton's legacy speech on the 18th and the 'Count the Silverware' freep on the 19th.

Presented FR plaques of thanks to the Norwegian and Vatican embassies for putting up with us during the "Get Out of Cheney's House" protests.

Helped organize the FreeRepublic Inaugural Ball and Count the Silverware Party featuring Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and his band, Capital Offense.

Conducted a month-long daily vigil in front of the Chinese embassy when the ChiComs held an American aircrew hostage.

On behalf of FreeRepublic, D.C. Chapter members presented FOX News' Brit Hume with a FR media award at his office.

Freeped Hillary Clinton's first fundraiser at her new D.C. mansion for Sen. Maria Cantwell in April. The protest was reported by major newspapers in D.C., NYC, and Washington state, causing Hillary to keep advance publicity of her fundraisers there out of the press.

Freeped Bill Clinton up close and personal at a JFK School of Government conference in D.C., causing him to sneek out the back of the Hotel Washington after he was humiliated by us when he entered it in our presence.

Freeped Dan Rather at a booksigning appearance in D.C. Rather was positioned in front of a large picture window where his audience faced us and our signs out on the sidewalk.

Hosted the Third Annual White Pimp Corps Dinner FReep where we razzed the liberal media and politicians and met with FRiends such as Barbara and Ted Olson and Matt Drudge.

Helped FR with Clinton's a liar and Diotima get Rush Limbaugh to see that FReepers were not the nut jobs who were spamming his e-mail with hate messages by meeting and speaking with him at a book party in D.C. for his brother David.

From July to early September, we were part of FR's coast-to-coast Gary Condit freeps over the disappearance of Chandra Levy, which included freeps at his Adams-Morgan lovenest and on Capitol Hill. Those protests rated coverage in The Washington Post, The Washington City Paper, CNS.com, local TV news and FOX News Channel.

In August, we demonstrated at the White House to call attention to the plight of the Klamath Basin farmers and the firefighters who died that summer as a result of the Endangered Species Act. We collected hundreds of signatures for the farmers got our fellow citizens to think about the abuses happening under the ESA.

Also in August, we organized a White House victory tour for one hundred FReepers through the office of Rep. Bob Barr.

In September, we founded Operation Infinite FReep to support America, our troops, President Bush and the victims of 9-11. Actions included the September 29 counter demonstration against anti-WTO commie-peaceniks who marched on D.C. This was the first time anywhere in the world that anyone organized resistance to the riotous thugs who terrorized cities around the globe with their actions.

We successfully defended the flag at the Navy memorial from the commies and demoralized the anti-war movement for many months by peacefully standing up to them. This was their first big action after 9-11 and we met them with a flag-waving patriotic resolve that blew their minds (literally).

Because we were peaceful, press coverage was minimal, but the AP ran a photo that was picked up by some newspapers across the country, along with coverage in the local D.C. and Baltimore papers and local TV. Reuters TV took lots of video, but we have no idea what was broadcast around the world. We did dozens of interviews that day, and used the opportunity to educate the left-leaning media about the nature of the anti-war protesters and how this war was differnet from the Vietnam era. Later, we apologized to the press for not giving them the violence they wanted (hehe.)

As a result of our demeanor that day, we were considered for an appearance on ABC News' Nightline, but we were passed over for a known quantity: The Heritage Foundation.

In October, we hosted "Family Flag Day" at the White House where we encouraged families to come out and fly the flag. Unfortunately, President Bush issued a terror alert the day before, so the turnout totalled about forty FReepers. However, the AP ran a photo of Dave Dilegge's son holding an American flag that was picked up by dozens of Sunday papers across the country with combined circulation of well over a million copies.

The weekend before Halloween we held a counter-demonstration by the White House against a small anti-war protest. By agreement with law enforcement, we did not organize a direct confrontation with them this time, but a few FReepers went to their march and peacefully confronted them.

In November, we had back-to-back freeps of Bill and Hillary Clinton at D.C. fundraisers. Bill was once again humiliated up close and personal, this time at Smith Bagley's in Georgetown. This featured the first time (I think) that Bill actually spoke to FReepers protesting him.

The following night, we freeped a fundraiser at Hillary's for her Hillpac. We learned and reported that the hired help was complaining about the low turnout at her fundraisers there.

Also in November, as part of Op. Infinite FReep, we commenced a weekly vigil at the Pentagon, which we are still maintaining to this day, for those murdered in the 9-11 terrorist attacks by creating a memorial to the two FReepers who died in the attacks: Barbara Olson and John Moran. The memorial (and FR) was recently reported in The Washington Times.

 Fresno/Central Valley Chapter-

"(1) Our Chapter organized and coordinated the "Post Inaugural Victory Brunch" in Clovis which was televised by C-Span - Jim Robinson was honored, FreeRepublic.com was touted, and the victory of President Bush was celebrated.
(2) Our Chapter organized and coordinated the "Gray Davis - Prince of Darkness - Flashlight Vigil" demonstration at the State Capitol to protest the governor's MIShandling of the energy crisis; this event got pretty good media coverage.
(3) Our Chapter participated in the Klamath Falls "Convoy of Tears" demonstration when the convoy came through Fresno; Jim Robinson attended and was introduced to the crowd.
(4) Our Chapter members have been faithfully participating in the "Infinite Freep" demonstrations every Friday evening at the corner of Shaw & Blackstone in Fresno to support the troops.
(5) Our Chapter organized and coordinated the freep of actor Danny Glover when he came to Modesto. (6) AND last, but certainly not least, our Chapter organized and coordinated the "Resign Condit" protests which have been ongoing for almost eight months now - every Saturday in Modesto near Condidit's district office; the first anti Condit protest was a mammoth media event back in July when Jim Robinson and Saundra Duffy presented a demand for Condit's resignation.
Thank you for your consideration of our Chapter for the Chapter of the Year honor." - Saundra Duffy

Arizona-
SUMMARY - Early in the year the Arizona Chapter decided upon the goal of
stirring up a little negative publicity for Senator John McCain.  Chapter
members believed McCain was becoming less and less a representative of
Arizona and more and more a shill for the Democrat Party.  Arizona Freepers
started out holding anti-McCain protests and ended up heading a campaign to
recall the senior senator from Arizona.  They also had the opportunity to
show their support for President Bush when he visited Arizona on Memorial
Day.  In September, Arizona Freepers had lunch with the winner of the NFRA's
Ronald Regan Freedom Award, Free Republic's own Jim Robinson!
EVENTS -
May 19 - March Against McCain and Support Katherine Harris
We planned the McCain protest for that day, but were contacted by Rep.
Hayworth's office about providing support for Katherine Harris because the
Dems were going to protest Harris' appearance.  Several FReepers pulled
double-duty that day.

May 28 - Memorial Day Rally for Bush
We staged a counter-protest outside the venue where Bush was speaking that
day.  We wanted to thank the president for the recently signed tax cut and
show support for the president when we knew the DEMS would be out in force
to ridicule him.
 FREEPER REPORT

June 2 - Protest of Daschle visit to McCain's home near Cottonwood, AZ
On less than 24 hours notice, we rounded up some FReepers to protest a
highly publicized meeting between Tom Daschle and John McCain.  The meeting
came just one week after McCain's vote AGAINST the Bush Tax Cut and his
absence at Bush's appearance at an event in Arizona honoring veterans on
Memorial Day.  We knew the press would be out in force and we managed to get
noticed by The New York Times, USA Today, The Arizona Republic and some
local TV news programs.

JUNE-SEPTEMBER - RECALL MCCAIN DRIVE
Arizona FReepers were quick to sign on to applications to initiate a Recall
of Senator McCain.  Several applications were made, and Chapter Leader,
Marcia Regan stepped in to consolidate the various recall applications into
one unified recall drive.  Arizona FReepers from across the state played an
important role in gathering signatures for the recall.  When the September
11th attacks occured, we announced an end to the recall drive on
Constitution Day in an effort to show unity with all the country's leaders.

Any chance of getting Alan Keyes on the media award or does he have to wait until next year?

He wasn't nominated, maybe next year. When we started the nomination process his show hadn't been on for very long.

NOTE: The internal Eagle awards are for activism outside of posting on the Forum. The Free Republic Network volunteered to install the software and admnister the Eagle Awards as the Forum does not have this ability. We have a system to make sure each member only votes once and you can sign up to vote without becoming a member!

I forgot to mention Tri-Staters' trip to Albany last Mother's Day: lowbridge, evilC, tabbykatz, Black Agnes, and I took a bus up there to join TRT and SAS in their rally---organized by lowbridge.

Nice work on the voting setup.
