Let's see, Dudley Moore, Milton Berle, hmmmmm. Anybody checked up on Bob Hope lately to see if he's still warm?

Drudge as about as fast as AP. The 'AP Breaking' site only features breaking news headlines that are at least 6 hours old.

The guy had class and style.

About a year ago, my wife related a story when she got back from getting her hair done in LA. She journeys there about once a month to get her hair done, and afterwards went into a Shop-for-less to pick up some fingernail polish or something.

After she left the store, she walked by an Italian restaurant/sidewalk cafe place somewhere over near Sunset or Hollywood and swung in for a lunch special. The place wasn't crowded, looked like reasonable prices, local place with some culture but local color.

When she asked for a table, the matre-de looked down at the plastic "Shop-for-Less" bag and said they were all reserved. Apparantly a little discussion took place, but my wife decided not to make an issue and started to leave when a fellow behind her spoke up and said, "Oh, she's with us!"

he Maitre'd quickly demured and became very accomodating and opened the chained entry and let my wife in with the strangers following, going to their 'usual table' and my wife offered to buy them lunch not knowing who the courteous gent was.

Turned out there was an entourage of about 5 older stars, Milty and Jerry Vale were there, so was a couple of others, I forget who now, but apparantly he was still sharp as a tack and still wore that black trenchcoat even in the summer.

From what I understand, they guy not only had class and style, but didn't let his stardom get in the way of courtesy. Gonna miss him.

It's the end of an era. I suspect Milton was a little older than 93. My father and Milton were in vaudeville together about 90 years ago. Milton was part of a child girl-boy dance team known as Bennet and Berle. My father was a musician, little more than a kid himself, in the orchestra pits. My father would have been 102-104, we think. There were no birth certificates in those days. My impression is that Berle and my father were not so different in age. My father, George Burns, and Gracie Allen used to play bridge together in the teens and 20s. They are all gone now, taking the history of vaudville and other parts of show business with them.

There is a(n urban?) legend about the, ahem, size of Berle's generative organs.

Rumor has it that he was very proud of it, and would lower his trousers at any time if someone asked about it.

Dunno if true but the rumor says he possessed one of the Wonders of the World.

I believe it--as a matter of pride--since we Jews are not famous for being well-equipped in general.
