This isnt a democracy, its a privately ran website. soooo. quit your belly achin.

We were told to be specific with our complaints..so they can be fixed..I have been..Loading time, readability...and division..

I even suggested a possible option..I thought input was wanted..guess not huh?

Are you living with a big local forum message atop every screen?

It was different each time, and then I went to my locale page and after that there were no more. I guess they got marked as "read." I assume new ones will show up again.

What I suggested was this new Beta as the primary..with an option for the old style unified board..I know this sounds like "belly achin"..but there are some of us that are over 50..have lousy eyes and have a hard time reading the new format..the old way was quick and easy..so that option would be useful to some of us

1) Search for keywords in articles and replies is now broken, as far as I can tell.

2) Full database search capability, i.e., over the timespan of the entire archive.

3) Capability to reply to articles over one year old.

In regard to Number 1, --

That has not been active for quite a while and we were informed about that by John!

In regard to Number 2, --

The search capability --- implemented by clicking at the top left of the appropriate screen gives a full title search for articles and works for articles over one year old -- just checked that out on a couple of articles I had bookmarked.

In regards to #3 -- will try that also!

OK Here is what you see when trying to post to anything prior to 9/14/01

Posting to this article is temporarily disabled.

REASON: All articles posted prior to 9/4/01 are currently locked read-only.

See Notice - Old threads temporarily locked

__________________________________________________________________

Again Keywords for articles is coming back if you will notice on full articles and you can clik on them and it will give you the recent articles that were posted with that keyword!

But that is in a not fully implemented state still -- I think!

Designer:

OK...I have a problem with reading my freepmail...I can't tell if I read or not...should be simpler or color coded.. two colors at the most...red..you read it...blue ..it's new. ..simpler somehow...and that beautiful flag bar on the right side is very distracting and makes it harder to read the posts...it's too wide in my opinion.

this was inevitable that this site would be brought into the 21st

century. Congratulations, Jim.

Like you, I'm having the Devil's own time reading the little stuff.

230K, huh? That explains why it's so s-l-o-w loading- I have a dial-up & an old machine, which I have tweaked as much as I can, and it was none too fast before- now it crawls....

Could any of this be "adjusted out" via style sheets?

You can turn off graphics -- but that's browser level, and on most browsers it affects every page. The new design also has too many tables.

Love it! I am amazed when with the advent of the computer people "flame." Yes, I got some good instructions and I will try them. Take a tranquilizer.

The switch to turn it on and off is located on your state (location) page.
At the right top you'll see one of these:

To be notified of new messages in this locale, click here.

If you do not wish to receive notification of new messages in this locale, click here.

I think you may have found the answer. I'm back in state for now, at least until I start seeing messages I don't need.

I also resigned but from NC. This improved the 'cluttered' look of the new format.

Joaquin found the switch. It's on the state forum page in the upper right. Mine already appeared to be set for no notification, but toggling it back and forth seemed to do the trick.

Appreciate the info.... so I'd have to reset IE when going to another site to see graphics, but that would speed loading....hummm-- I seem to recall that hitting space, or maybe control or alt. space aborts loading the graphics, too. Might be worth a try!

This site doesn't seem to gel with people vary well. I saw the beta and went back to old site all the time.

I hope this is truly a beta and test. and not permanent. Is there a vote any ware going on for user ratings.

Also the flag on the side isnt tiled very well and causes eye strain.

On small monitors even with titles only listed you can see maybe five or six and the scrolling is a nightmare.

The old fr was a fast efficient a lean mean fighting machine that really didnt need a somewhat fancy design to make it work.

It just worked

Thats why I was there to get news and also it was the fast interaction with the world that I liked.

This way to slow.
