Course On African-American Men Offered At Temple

For the first time, Temple University is offering a special course that examines the Black man in America.

Instructor Ed Coleman says his course, The Black Man, is designed to look beyond all of the grim statistics and media stereotypes and get students to critically examine the roots and characteristics of the modern African American man.

According to Coleman, the black man's baggage has its roots in slavery, when the role of manhood was subverted from provider to survivor and sexual tool. "Where African American men or African men had been forced to be breeders and studs and that became the prevalent notion of what it meant to be a man where the emphasis was placed on the individual rather than the family or the community."

The class, which is in Temple's African American studies department, covers education, spirituality, health and criminal justice issues and relationships.

It is NOT just her age, but her language, actions, etc. that make a statement to young men which says.....hey, I'm here for you to use......and she WILL be used, no matter the color of the guy, if she continues on her current path....here come the abortions, the heartbreak, the diseases, the babies out of wedlock with out fathers, the poorness, etc.....

I agree with you on that and I do hope someone with some sense gets to her before she messes her life up. She needs someone to protect her, even at the risk of being a little strict.

It is part of the diversity indoctrination. The intention is to blend all of the races.

These kids are a product of their indoctrination. If you want to take them off the streets and try to strip away their indoctrination, feel free to do it. I feel that this generation is lost. It would be like trying to rescue a person from a cult after she has been thoroughly brainwashed in the ways of the cult.

I have been informed by some younger, female relatives that it is not unknown for white girls to be harrassed by other white girls and black boys as well, if they do not date interracially . They're told that this proves they're racists, and the girls have been indoctrinated with the idea that "racist" is the worst thing you can be, so...

This isn't too much different from my HS years, when girls were told that if they didn't "put out" (archaiac slang even for my time) that proved they were "lezzies" (ie, lesbians). There's always people out there who try to use anything to manipulate the insecure into doing their bidding.

And then there's cases like that of my 18 year old adopted niece . Her Biomom was a drug addict and an alcoholic. She is bipolar, ADD/ADHD, possible FAS-she will never have a normal life. She's by no means retarded, but she's incapable of concentrating, and so she cannot go to college. She won't take her meds. Anyhow, she moved out on my sister, and has since tried to blackmail her into paying rent, buying her a car, etc, by threatening to get pregnant. Her idea was to have the kid, and then force my sister to support it. When that didn't work, she tried to "up the ante" by threatening to go with, and get pregnant by, "a black guy". (Guess just any "black guy".) Still didn't work. My sister told her that if she (the niece) had a child , it was her responsibility, and she would not be financially responsible for the child.

I applaud my sister for sticking to her guns, and for refusing to be blackmailed . But it just goes to show that for some girls (not all of them with mental/emotional problems) "a black guy" is not a person in their eyes, he's just a "thing" to use to annoy their parents. Or a trophy to parade around, silently proclaiming,"See! I'm a nonracist! Aren't I noble?"

My niece is not a monster, though I realize my story makes her sound like one. Right now, she's living with a 21 year old TOOTHLESS white guy who gets SSI , and his mom.(ie, a crack addict and his mom. Loss of teeth at so young an age is a sign of severe drug abuse.) They live in a filthy single wide trailer. She is not (yet) pregnant. The two seem to think my sister is rich, and they want to use my niece as a cash cow, and she's too naive to see what they're up to. Frankly, I pity any "black guy" who goes near her, if she's not given up her little scheme, as he's risking 18-21 years of CS payments. And I pity any child she conceives, no matter who the father. S/he'll have very little chance at a decent future.

Well, I just cannot believe the kids of this generation. They are so different from my generation that there is no real comparison. They seem to have no sense of morality or decency. They just do whatever they want to do, and God help the person who tries to tell them no.

The REAL problem, is that this prof, is using the basest of all steriotypes, for his course. The way the article presents it, this prof is excluding the vast black middle class, and the upper middle cass, and the upper class ( excluding atheltes and performers here ... I mean the black aristocracy ! ) ones. The CEO of Beatrice Foods, was better bred, more affluent, better educated, and better spoken, than the majority of whites, in this country ! He didn't have any apparent baggage, from slavery. Neither do Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, and at least 100 other black men, whom I either know personally, or have read / listened to.

Those, who revel in " victimhood ", are the ones who need a class !

Yes, many of the parents have used heavy drugs, and they have a tough enough time just knowing the time of day without the added burden of raising kids. I have said over and over that drugs are bad for a society.

And then there are people who try to change society into the image of what they think it should be in the mistaken belief that their ideas will make society function better. There are also space-cadets who have only superficial working brains. Those who persuade girls to date people just to prove that they are not "racists" fall under these two categories.

I don't use drugs myself but I think they should be legal it would erase the black market and associated violence, and by making them more available the addicts will die quicker and the quicker they die the better for the rest of us( what can I say I'm not a compassionate conservative).

There is a problem with your line of thinking on drugs. The drug addicts won't all die out. New ones would be made every day.

If they caused any trouble they'd be locked up for that not drugs all the while the number of drug addicts and stupid people would decrease. Its better for the species if the stupid ones don't reproduce and drug laws are a huge unconstitutional waste of tax money.
