The Center for Arizona Policy - GLSEN in Public Schools -

  1. Parents of children in public schools need to be aware of an upcoming event sponsored by the “Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network” (GLSEN) on Wednesday, April 10. On that day, GLSEN – which seeks to brainwash and intimidate children into embracing homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism – is sponsoring a national “Day of Silence.” GLSEN is encouraging children to be silent for the full 9-hour school day, and to respond when spoken to by handing out a card that says: “Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by harassment, prejudice and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today. What are you going to do to end the silence?” This is not an April Fool’s joke! While you may want to laugh at this latest example of left-wing lunacy, your school may actually be welcoming the event! At Scottsdale’s Desert Mountain High School, a “legal memo” from an unlicensed attorney warms DMHS teachers that “[a]ny attempt to stop the students from doing this in your classroom could well be grounds for legal action against you.” The memo ignores standards set by the Supreme Court, which said a school may regulate speech on viewpoint-neutral criteria when it interferes with the school’s educational mission. Having students refuse to interact with teachers may well interfere with a school’s educational mission. If your school is going along with this, please e-mail CAP attorney Gary McCaleb at garym@azpolicy.org. While it seems outlandish to impose this on children, perhaps homosexual activists will consider extending this approach to adults. The notion of homosexual activists being quiet about their sexuality for a whole day – or even longer – holds a certain appeal.

Have the schools been going along with it ?

I know there will be replys that say to home school but in some cases (mine) it's not viable at this point...

If this does appear in my daughters school district I will take her out on vacation that day...I guess that will be our "silent protest".

I would like to print some cards for her to hand out in protest of this but I don't believe it is right to advance political agendas through our children...

Any info you have on the activities in Washington would be appreciated.

regards,

Jim

I have heard on local radio (KVI) about the "program" being "implemented" in Puyallup - at a high school there, I believe. Lots of controversy. KVI had a student from the school on the radio who was speaking against it - and I believe was trying to do a counter protest on the same day. Also there are contentions that the pushers of the program have used school facilities and materials, etc. to push it and so could be in violation of laws regarding use of public property to promote something at school that is not education related. I looked for articles in local newspapers but could find nothing. I would see NO problem with your daugther? REACTING to someone giving her a note with a counter note, if SHE WANTED TO....good luck. The homosexual lobby is wealthy and pushy and frankly I'm sick of it.

OH dittomom, good! This is sick. Genuinely sick. I almost cannot stand it....if it is a national day of silence, I intend to find out if it is going on here in Indy, as well. This is wrong. Homosexuals have NO BUSINESS interfering with education to promote their sexual proclivities. NONE! NADA!!!!!

I was told by someone in the AZ state legislature that because the "archaic" laws are now a thing of the past, the gay issue is/will be taught in all public schools.

We need to send this info to Bill O'reilly and Sean and Rush and anyone else who might take issue with SPREADING THIS SICKNESS to AMERICAN CHILDREN. This is infuriating. And it is WRONG. And it has NO PLACE IN SCHOOLS. NONE. NADA.

Our tax dollars pay for CHILDREN to be educated, not used as pawns by poltically correct homosexuals who think that by forcing their sexual proclivities down our faces, to numb us to the atrocity of what they actually like to do with the same sex they will, that somehow the perverse behavior they engage in will be considered normal. It is not normal-it is rotten. And the disease it spreads can kill.

I went to their pathetic site and sent an email to the midwest coordinator. Kinda hated to send such a strong message to a kid, but that they are using a public facility, paid for by all of us, to worm their sick lifestyle into the hearts and minds of kids who are simply in school to be educated not used a pawns by some special interest group that is grumpy because many see their agenda as dangerous and immoral just GRIPES ME. I sent her a note, alright. What a shame.GLSEN sucks.

IF it is going to go on in any of our schools, I am going to attend school that day myself and DEMAND equal time for another side to the story since SCHOOLS are for educating, not having children sit in silence to help a special interest group.
