All I know is that I'm freezing my toes off here on the California Central Coast, and it's not supposed to be like that at this time of the year. Spring is our only consistently sunny season, and this year, no Spring. arrghh.

Possibly an early sign of El Nino: warmer coastal waters, more clouds/fog.

You are absolutely right. We had El Nino for about four years, then La Nina for two years. That was even worse! And it ended last year, so now we're back to El Nino again. El Nino seems to be becoming the "norm" here.

Our fog is advection fog, not radiation fog. It is caused when air masses from the tropical Pacific pass over the cold water that is brought to the surface by upwelling. More fog means colder water.
