Breaking News: Shots Fired At St. Patrick's Cathedral

Police sources tell NewsChannel 4 that one person was shot in the face this afternoon in an office or rectory area St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan, in an apparent suicide attempt.

The shooting was at 14 East 51st Street, near Madison Avenue.

The victim was taken to New York Cornell Medical Center

Apparently no one else was injured.

I don't get it. Why in a church? Did he want to go to confession before he offed himself? I think killing yourself sort of negates the confession. Oh, well. RIP.

12:04 PST NEW YORK (AP) -- A man who said he was depressed shot himself in the head Wednesday in the rectory of St. Patrick's Cathedral while talking with a priest, authorities and church officials said.

The man was taken to a hospital; his condition was not immediately known. The priest was not hurt. The Roman Catholic cathedral is on Fifth Avenue in busy midtown Manhattan.
