President Bush's high job-approval rating will benefit Republicans in November's midterm elections, a survey released yesterday suggests, and it appears to be fueling record-setting fund raising by the Republican National Committee.

Mr. Bush "will sustain high job-approval ratings throughout the 2002 elections," stated a report by the Republican polling firm Public Opinion Strategies, which evaluated spikes in approval ratings for other presidents in the past 30 years.

A CBS News poll released Wednesday put Mr. Bush's job approval at 77 percent. A CNN/ Gallup/USA Today poll last week showed his job approval at 79 percent.

I can see the headlines: Bush Popularity Plummets

Democrats say congressional races will be decided individually...

Yeah, you said that in 1994 too. Get ready for total minority party status in Washington come January, RATS!

I actually think we will lose Senate seats. Anyone wants to bet on whether we will take the Senate? I say the GOP will have anywhere between 45-47 seats in the Senate after this election. They will keep the House though.

That's OK, there are tons of recovered democrats here, including me. We've all been through the 12-step program.

I am seriously afraid that the Republicans will suffer a loss of seats in the Senate. There are so many more Republican than Demodog seats up in 2002... holding all of those is going to be difficult. I have not given up hope, but it is naive to believe conservatives have anything like a cakewalk to gain the Senate.

You must look at each Senate race. When you do that, it looks very, very close, with a slight edge (IMHO) going to the Republicans.

Fox News/Opinion Dynamics has Bush at 79% job approval from a poll taken 4/2-4/02. Pretty good for 7-months after 9/11.

I would guess by Nov. his approval will be around 67-72 or so....I can't imagine it dropping to pre-911 days. We need to fight hard to win this year, but there is a hope that we may be able to do something that has not happened for us in a long time.....have both houses of Congress and the presidency....but we will need to fight hard to see this happen.

"That's OK, there are tons of recovered democrats here, including me. We've all been through the 12-step program" It's really tough when you come from a family who has voted Dem for generations regardless of the issues.
