Right. I believe Palestine under the British Mandate was roughly what's now Israel and Jordan. It sounds like masses of people described here, but I've seen posted excerpts from a piece by Mark Twain (from I think about 1890-1900) describing sparse population of any kind.

Interesting reading. It's a real shame that Hewitt is so liberal on domestic issues, as he's a heck of a good writer.

There are plenty of errors in this article.
The most glaring is the assertion that Rome destroyed the first Jewish state in Israel. Actually, it destroyed the LAST one.
