As turmoil gripped Towson University yesterday over its president's sudden resignation, faculty and staff at a campus halfway across the nation expressed little surprise.

Mark L. Perkins resigned Monday under pressure from the state university system's Board of Regents over Towson's spending on its new presidential mansion, which totaled nearly $2 million.

Yesterday, regents were still searching for an interim president, as Towson faculty, alumni and students assailed the handling of Perkins' exit.

I think Glendenning would like this job except it would cost Kathleen Kennedy Townsend the governorship and I think the Kennedy clan has made their wishes known to Glendenning.

Gee, if only the folks at Towson had picked up the papers in Green Bay prior to hiring Perkins. They would've had a clue....we knew the guy liked to live like royalty, sucking off the taxpayers & student fees. That's why UWGB canned the guy. At least Towson got rid of him a whole lot faster than UWGB. I hope he never gets another job in academia.

The president's mansion at Kutztown U. in PA would pass for the "poor" side of the tracks along, say, the Main Line outside Philly (pun partially intended).

That sounds eerily like Bill & Hillary in the Arkansas governor's mansion.

I'm betting that Marc Perkins is a black guy. Can anyone confirm or reject this hypothesis?

Pretty much. Except that he liked living larger than Bill & Hill. He *expected* it, thought he *deserved* it by virtue of his position.

Here's his picture. You may want to click on this relatively soon because I'd bet it's going to be taken down.

Crassness is not confined to one color or another. When you insert a comment like the one above, you reflect a sense of racial prejudice that FreeRepublic was not designed to support. Please consider how offensive your remark is to the MANY black American conservatives who support FreeRepublic.

In all seriousness, I am not flaming you, here is my question for you to ask yourself. Do you consider yourself to have racist feelings? If not, why should it matter what color this university president is.

I'm betting that Marc Perkins is a native Virginian, and maybe even a Presbyterian. Can anyone confirm or reject this hypothesis?

"Gee, if only the folks at Towson had picked up the papers in Green Bay prior to hiring Perkins."

That would have been the easy way, huh? Any private investigator could have found out everything they wanted to know for less than the 50k Towson paid to that useless "academic search" company.

Heck, a PI would've worked a whole lot cheaper, but all this fancy-schmanzy "academic search" company had to do was hit the internet & check out the Green Bay papers before recommending this guy--and for a whole lot less than $50,000. Idiots.

The following are racist generalizations and while they have some truth, they do not apply to everyone.

1. most white collar crime is by whites, for example, arthur anderson, bill and hill clinton, mark lay, michel milken, ivan boesky, global crossing, Kennedy (a former president at Stanford who resigned over very similar trasgressions), etc. The few exceptions would include Jesse Jackson and Marion Barry.

2. most blue collar crime is committed by non whites, that is armed robbery, murder, car theft, etc.

Again, these are generalizations with some truth in them but every person should be judged individuallly.

I am surprised that you would assume that a white collar criminal would be black because that goes against the common generalization.

UWGB did not "can" Perkins. The money for the house renovations did not come from MD state funding, unless you count the ten year loan from the USM. Are you able to outline specific instances of the "guy" living like royalty or sucking off the taxpayers and student fees? If you are from Green Bay, you might remember that the renovations to expand the Chancellor's home were the first done since the 1960's, when the house was first built. You might also remember that until those renovations, large receptions had to be split between the basement and the living room because not everyone could fit into the house. Please, provide specific examples based on actual facts and not your own bitterness.
