April 13, 2002 -- A top aide to blind terror sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman used secret code words to push for new terror attacks, authorities charged yesterday.

Federal prosecutors say Staten Island postal worker Ahmed Sattar was caught on tape with a leader of the Islamic Group terror network talking about "weddings" - an alleged euphemism for violence.

"After Saturday comes Sunday" is a famous Muslim saying, sometimes interpreted to mean that after the fundamentalists finish the Jews, they'll deal with the Christians.

"God willing, when there is a wedding, the people will need these things,"
an Islamic Group leader named Musa tells Sattar in a call recorded on Sept. 13, 2000

Classic planted story, "Call recorded in 2000"

Judging from the way fundamentalist Muslims treat women and girls, it's not hard to see how they came up with the euphemism.

"Wedding" = there must be someone out there ready to cash in on those 72 Virgins Allah has waiting as a reward for being a martyr.

Perish the thought.

I wonder if anyone checked this postal worker for anthrax?

Then again 2000 was during BJ Clinton's watch, and nothing was done. Why am I not surprised?

Staten Island postal worker Ahmed Sattar

Earlier stories have said Sattar is a letter-carrier who lives on Staten Island. This is probably just a paraphrase of that. But it might be read to mean that he does his work on Staten Island.

Those of us following the anthrax story have noticed the indictment of this guy, and have been wondering whether there is any connection with the anthrax story.

Sattar is actually a postal worker on Staten Island. This article in the Staten Island Advance says that he works at the Eltingville and Manor Road post offices. According to the USPS web site, the Eltingville Station is at 4455 Amboy Rd, Staten Island, NY 10312. The article's reference to the Manor Road post office presumably means the main Staten Island post office, since that post office is at 550 Manor Rd, Staten Island, NY 10314.

Thanks. The Eltingville post office is very near Perth Amboy and Exit 10 of the New Jersey Turnpike. With good traffic, you could probably drive from the Eltingville post office to Princeton in half an hour.

I wonder what kind of letter-carrier's job would involve working in both the Eltingville and main Staten Island post offices. Remember how the job of one of the D.C. postal workers who came down with anthrax was to drive and transfer letters between BWI (Baltimore-Washington International Airport) and the office for government mail at the D.C. Brentwood facility?

Here's an observation that may be of interest: the West Nile virus outbreak seems to be centered on Staten Island. For example, according to this CDC report, 36% of the infected mosquito pools found were in Staten Island; the rest were scattered over 15 counties in four states. West Nile virus suddenly appeared in New York City in late August, 1999; it had never been observed in the Western Hemisphere before. See this ProMED article for a description of the "stunning" nature of the discovery; it's described by one expert as "one of the most remarkable occurrences I have seen in 35 years working with arthropod-borne viruses."
