Sorry, Romulus, there is no popular election of clergy in Episcopal ranks, either. Take for example the recent events in Accokeek, Maryland, where the elected choice of the parish was refused by a radical left bishop, even to the point of involving the U S Government in what would be a totally religious situation...

Not universal suffrage, I realise that; but there is a class of electors that consists of both the clergy and lay electors nominated by individual parish vestries, tending to reflect the views of the most active members of the laity, and especially those of large donors.
