I like it.

Israel desperately wants the monks and nuns to leave so they can eliminate the armed Palestinians. Subjecting innocent people to this kind of sonic torture seems to go hand in hand with the Israelis general policy of seeking retribution against civilians and combatants in response to the homocide/suicide bombings of Palestinian terrorists. Thank you for sharing your asinine opinion.

Palestinian terrorists ARE civilians.
Kinda makes it hard to sort them out.

It is worth noting that this effort of the IDF is in violation of Israel's accord with the Vatican. As the Franciscans say, it doesn't matter how wrong it is that armed Palestinians are in the church compound, that does not give carte blanche to Israel to ignore their legal obligation to the Vatican in this conflict.

Waco also comes to mind.
Unfortunately, this whole "spies like us" (security council like us, capitalists like us, democrats like us, yada yada) has ended up with our resembling the Evil Empire far more than the old "former Soviet" types (and their progeny in Israel -- as outfitted with the rope Uncle Sam sold them to hang himself on) resemble us.
Useful idiots and all that rot:
In 1989 edition of the National Drug Control Strategy, President Bush made it official: 'We must be prepared to share our knowledge and our concern with the Soviet Union and Eastern European nations and be willing to engage them in cooperative counterdrug activities". (36)
In this strategy document, there was no recognition of the role of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe countries in drug-trafficking and in creating the very sickness the strategy was designed to cure. Towards the end of 1989, the DEA made a formal proposal to the Soviets for the DEA to conduct 'advanced narcotics investigations' for about 30 anti-narcotics professionals from Soviet customs, the Ministry of Interior and the KGB. As one DEA official, Paul Higdon, explained: 'We're looking at them as policemen - these guys are cops with a mission similar to ours'. Not to be outdone, US Customs is proposing a formal information-sharing agreement, similar to the ones we have with most of our Western allies'
Hear No Evil -- Part II Case in point (for comparison purposes): Vladimir Meciar's Dawn Arrest
Case in point (for comparison purposes): Modesto Boy, 11, Shot By SWAT Team
The Elian Snatch and What It Could Mean for You.
If the Compassion and Clean Hands of Population Control are less sensational than the ski masks and jackboots with which our leaders address only the illegal Drug Trade they've enabled my entire lifetime, perhaps it's because they took such care to remove the SENSATIONALISM .
We're looking at them as policemen - these guys are cops with a mission similar to ours
Given the footprint of the jackboot tactics of terror, coercion, intimidation and "pragmatic" targeting of civilians toward some Greater Goods in death ... who can argue that we're all on the same side now?

This is where the illogic jumps out at you. There are hundreds - thousands - of suicide bombers and gunmen to replace the ones in the Church of the Nativity. If Israel was interested in their own real security and long-term diplomatic interests, they would pull back and let the Palestinian gunmen in the Church leave without incident.

I heard some moron from the church quoted as saying, "It is now no longer a holy place" referring to the Israeli army's actions. Now, if he had been talking about the Muslim terrorists holed up inside he would have been more nearly correct.

The Israelis should sing Christian hymns. That'll really drive everybody in the Church nuts. Start with Rock of Ages, on to The Lord of the Dance...

It is a mistake to paint them as Muslim terrorists when many of these people are Palestinian Christians. Bethlehem still has a very large Palestinian Christian population some of whom are in that Church including the Palestinian Franciscan monk Father Ibrahim.
To: Askel5
Israel has offered them safe passage to a third country. That, to me, clears the IDF of any blame someone tries to put on them.
To: history_matters
sorry, not monk, ..... friar.
To: LarryLied
Everyone inside the Church?
Because so far, I'm unimpressed with Israel's ability to distinguish militants from innocent civilians.
