I've read a number of articles relating to DEET and this word of caution. I used to go to the Army/Navy/Surplus store and buy the concentrated military version that was 85+% DEET. Mothers/Fathers, be careful putting this stuff on your children. This is the same stuff in off-the-shelf insect repellants like "OFF." (All brands use the same basic ingredients)

So in other words, the practically drowned the rats every day in a dosage that was desgined for animals that are 1,000 times heavier than rats.

Rats are not humans and their physiology is VERY different. For example, dioxin is deadly poison to some small animals but no one has been able to show that there is any effect at all on humans. Owls are immune to the effects of potassium cyanide, a poison that would kill humans in seconds.
