Few years back, Sweden decided to revitalize their economy by helping small businesses expand. When they looked around, they discovered they had killed off almost all of them off and there was no base to revitalize. One third of the people worked for large corporation, one third for government and one third did not work at all.

I don't know how the Swedish economy fared vs the US economy at the time, but I do remember in 1971, a new Volvo in Sweden cost $18,000. While my income as a captain in the Air Force was $12,000, and my home in Florida was $15,000.

This is huge news that we probably won't see anywhere else.
I remember some articles in the Los Angeles Times back in the eighties about New Zealand, the world's oldest socialist system, how they were having trouble financing their socialism because the third generation had no initiative to better themselves or work hard to help support the system that gave them cradle to grave "security."

I never saw any follow up information on this or any real news on how the socialist countries are actually doing. I would very much appreciate anyone who could direct me now or in the future to further solid information on this subject.

Interesting article. Thanks for posting it.

One thing bugs me, though. Is it true that blacks are the most economically deprived group in the US? How about Native Americans? Mexican Americans? African Americans have made great strides into the middle class in the last 20 years.

I just can't help but think that the writer of the piece assumes that blacks here are all still poor, and everyone else is white and rich. I hope at least the researchers did their homework.

This is hilarious. This was posted the other day (under a totally different title) and I showed it to some lefties...all were in denial. "It's a bunch of lies, everyone knows the Swedes are far better off than we are".

There was a similar article posted, by not this one. I hope this study gets wide coverage in Sweden. This is really going to rankle. The Euros think they are so superior to Americans, because we "oppress" our Black people. Now, Sweden as the 51st state is below Mississippi. Just as Arkansas' State Motto is: "Thank God for Mississippi", Mississippi's new State Motto will be "Thank God for Sweden".

"This meant that Swedes stood "below groups which in the Swedish debate are usually regarded as poor and losers in the American economy," Bergstrom and Gidehag said."

How come the ONLY GARBAGE TRUCKS used in America are Swedish Volvos???????? That must be their only export.

What is insulting to me about this article is that it immediately jumps on the notion of "Oh, boo hoo, we are poorer than blacks in America!" What the heck is all that about?!

Of course, the Swedes (and I like their cars, dammit!) convienently ignore other statistics that show that if black America were it's own nation, the GNP would be the tenth largest on the planet.

To hear this group tell it, Swedish households are no better off than the deepest, darkest reaches of Mississippi!

Poor Sweden......I knew this 10 years ago when I visited with my family. The "poor" young Swedish girls could not afford undies....no Bra and often no panties. It was terrible! I often engaged in conversation with these poor girls to better understand their plight.

If Sweden were a U.S. state, it would be the poorest measured by household gross income before taxes, Bergstrom and Gidehag said.

I just imagine Sweden being a US state and comparing unfavorably with Arkansas and Mississippi.

LOL. I can't even really comment on this, just laugh. I'm still laughing.
