My first thoughts too. Decades ago I tried to think of a future intance that would bring that to pass. . .but thought it pertained to the 'holy of holies' in the re-built temple, which, at the time, seemed unlikely. A striking parallel, at any rate. Perhaps a metaphor.
If you are speaking of the prophecy in Revelation, referenced to the Book of Daniel, I think you are right.
We are truly witnessing an "abomination, standing in the holy place", as prophecied.
Yikes, what's next....the appearance of the AntiChrist? Oh well, at least we're ready for the sumbitch....
I wondered about that, too. My neighbor says it's supposed to be at the temple site, but who really knows?
