Man shoots himself while stuffing gun in waistband

GREAT FALLS (AP) - A 22-year-old Great Falls man shot off his right testicle Friday while stuffing a .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun in his waistband, police said.

Officer Keith Perkins said the man, whom he declined to identify, was upset because a buddy had been cut in a bar fight and several friends, including the 22-year-old, were in a parking lot looking for the culprits in the predawn hours.

"When the group decided not to do what they were going to do, he decided he was going to take the gun back home," Perkins said.

The man, who had been drinking, shot off his testicle, injured his penis and put a hole in his right thigh, the officer said. A friend took him to the hospital.

The officer said police initially thought of ticketing the man for disorderly conduct but likely won't, under the circumstances.

He is lucky he didn't sever his femoral artery. That is one lesson in gun safety he is unlikely to forget.

This article was posted over the weekend and got yanked. I think because we were so merciless to this poor sap. I must admit (with a small amount of pride) that I was the first to question if the weapon was a "hair trigger" glock. Does this mean he now has permission to always go off half-cocked?

I don't know about that but it sounds like he forfeited his right to keep and 'bare' testicles. He'll probably be shooting blanks from now on.

So he's been drinking, decides to avenge his buddy who has already been in a fight & gotten cut, then he tries to look cool & stuff the gun in his waistband like those heroes on TV do, and.......maybe there is a reason those people on TV always put the gun in the BACK of their waistbands?

Vivid example why "Mexican carry" is a bad idea. Many who carry end up spending 20-40% of the price of a good pistol finding a holster that "works". That is much cheaper financially, physically, and psychically than shooting off a nad.
