America the fearful
The Boston Globe ^ | 5/21/2002 | By James Carroll, Globe Columnist

THE MORE powerful the United States becomes, the more frightened we are. Why is that?

An undercurrent of hysteria has coursed through the talk out of Washington over the last week as, first, critics demanded to know whether government officials had ignored warnings of the terrorist attacks of last September and, second, the same government officials - in response? - issued a new warning of coming attacks that might be even worse.

The media slime continues. The pundits and pecksniffs respond to phoney "concern" and "outrage" whipped up by the reporters and Democrats in their dog and pony show over who knew what and when.

For the last couple of days they've been getting what they agitated for and we've been getting warned about every damn time some towel head that's been locked up for six months "informs" his waiter that apartments, banks, sporting events and Skip's Drive-in Smelt Shack are all targets of low-grade a$$holes using bullying and brinksmanship and the cheapest weapon they have (human? life).

Now Mr. Carroll feels free to criticize Bush, and the entire administration as fearful cowards.

I believe Bush is showing remarkable restrain at this time.

One more attack on U.S. soil and the gloves will be off or we'll find out for sure how far we've been compromised in the last eight years.

Carroll thinks this is some kind of Kabuki theater, I think we've been fighting with one hand and eight fingers tied behind our backs.

The Islamists are convinced that their combination of low tech war, propaganda and buzz right from an Arab bazaar, and useful idiots like Carroll will beat our high tech, causualty averse military.

We should stop dancing around, and send the terrorists, and any who have aided and abetted them to the darkest region of Hell!

While this might be true inside the Beltway, this being the dreaded election year, actual Americans have enough of their own business to worry about. Will the new SUV be Ford, Lexus, or Toyota, that's the real concerns of real people.

James Carroll was on TV last week claiming that Republican Polls only had "Yes/No" boxes while Democratic polls had a variety of choices.
I believe he was trying to dismiss the popularity of Limbaugh and O'Reilly

Give Him the Bill Maher Treatment

One or two more months of this game of bulls!t followed by another mass attack and I think we should bring back the draft and to paraphrase G. Patton, make some of them die for their cause.

They think we won't throw a huge army into the field and let's face it; the field is all around us.

Pray for the second amendment.

How 'bout them Red Sox?

Looks like a dry summer, eh?

I reeaaahlly hope it doesn't rain on the Island again this summer.

Do you think a couple of kamakazes exploding at the mall over the summer holidays will snap 'em out of it?

Statue of Liberty is one thing, but the mall? Unthinkable. The jihadists probably aren't aware that there are shootouts at the mall all the time, they'll probably get caught in crossfire before they can explode. Nobody dare mess with the malls.

I believe the likely scenario is the second. And Bush knows it.

I think the column is spot on.

Time to roll big time on a full blown investigation of the Dress Stainer. The nation deserves to know the truth as to how we got in this mess.

Carroll's mostly a blathering liberal sycophant of the Boston/Kennedy/Law/Kerry/socialist/NYT/chattering class ilk who opines without benefit of reality.

This marks the end of the hope, long shared by conservatives and liberals alike, that human beings might eventually wean themselves of these terrible weapons altogether.

Another liberal pipe dream bites the dust.
Conservative hope of disarmament? What has he been smoking?

Just another trash Bush article.

Ditto!

" The only real protections against cross-border terrorism are international structures of criminal justice like the recently established International Criminal Court, yet an ''unsigning'' United States slaps the court down with contempt. "

This is where I stopped reading...
