I don't know tons about his politics, I've heard that a number of atheletes are Republicans. He was on some t.v. show several months ago promoting the Olympics; he's a really funny guy.

About the time he announced his Republican leanings, he used an anectdote. This would have been around the end of GHWB's term.
"My mom said, 'You watch out for that Bush. He's for the rich,'" Barkley said. "I told her, 'Mama, I am the rich.'"
