PAPER: Rock Creek Park Predator Interviewed by Police Investigating Levy Death Thu May 23 2002 12:52:01 ET

D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officials investigating the death of Washington intern Chandra Levy have interviewed a man serving a 10-year prison sentence for attacking two women in Rock Creek Park last year, ROLL CALL DAILY is planning to report on Thursday.

MORE

D.C. Metro Police investigators have "talked to" Ingmar Guandeque, who was arrested in July 2001 after attacking two females (one in May and one in July) who were jogging along the Broad Branch trail in Rock Creek Park. Levy's decomposed body was found Wednesday along the Broad Branch trail in a heavily wooded area.

A second official close to the Levy investigation said that while Guandeque was interviewed after Levy's disappearance last year, investigators are now taking a closer look at him since the intern's body was discovered.

"Clearly there are some coincidences and links -- just because of the proximity of where he [committed his crimes]," said a source close to the investigation.

ROLL CALL's Amy Keller reports: Guandeque, who lived on the 1400 block of Somerset Place Northwest, was arrested last summer and sentenced in February 2002 to two concurrent terms of 10 years' imprisonment for a pair of assaults of female joggers in the Broad Branch section of the park.

The first attack occurred in mid-May 2001, at 6:30 p.m., about two weeks after Levy disappeared. In that case, Guandeque came upon an unnamed female jogger, attacking her from behind while brandishing a knife.

"Both victims had a walkman and so did Chandra, interesting. But why didn't the predator take Chandra's walkman ?"

Or her ring for that matter.

I totally agree with you. Condit may not be guilty of murdering Chandra Levy, but he is not innocent. Remember, he lied three times to the investigative officials before admitting having an affair with Chandra. He also was caught disposing of evidence when he threw out that watch in a dumpster. That type of behavior is unfit for a Congressman.

Put me down under why didn't they search this area last summer IF they knew this guy had hit on two women there.

Too pat, IMO. And you know as well as I do, IF he was a suspect, the DC media couldn't have/wouldn't have kept this quiet.

Don't you guys think this is odd? Surely she knew better than to run where there was a predator stalking victims???

They "found" him in his jail cell where he's serving 10 years for the two previous assaults.

I think it's odd because I had the impression that this was an out of the way place.....why would she pick a place like that to make take a run that even her friends say she hardly ever made?

That is a case that never got the attention it deserved; A triple homicide undiscovered for hours with nothing taken. The closing Manager was a former White House intern. Someone should take all of the suspicious deaths in all of the past admins and compare them with the number of ones that occurred in the Xlinton admin.

Sounds like the real murderer read about this guy's two crimes and then dumped the body there later to lay the crime at his feet. Too pat for my taste. consider the fact that that area had already been searched and then voila, the body turns up there a year later? Had to be moved in. What better than a place where a similar crime had already been committed a couple of times and the guy already on ice.

LOL Mea Culpa! He was the pathologist that autopsied CNO Boorda and called it a suicide. Did you ever noticed how many suicides happened close to the Xlintons?

No, this sounds like a very serious suspect. Considering the location and timing of the other attacks, this may be the killer.

Not likely. Levy was killed. She was buried in a shallow grave. Her death occured before these attacks. This guy didn't successfully attack either of these women, much less attempt to kill them.

If this guy Guandeque actually did it, Condit has to be the unluckiest human being on the planet.

Condit isn't unlucky at all. He led a sleazy, deceptive, and perverted life long before Chandra arrived on the scene, and then repeatedly lied to and misled the police.

If Condit had been the stand-up Congressman and family man he pretends to be--actually working instead of disappearing for hours every day to chase nubile nookie--he wouldn't be in the situation he's now in.
