I think Condit chose the spot days earlier, based more on it's out-of-the-way location than the terrain. I don't think he realized or thought about how hard it would be to dig until after he came back with the shovel. He started digging. It wasn't easy. However, at this point, he realized he didn't have time to look somewhere else that would be an easier dig. Giving his plans to carry out the murder the following day or few days, he proceeded to dig- not as deeply as he would like, but enough to be able to cover the body. Hence the shallow grave.
Given her passion and eagerness to be with him, and he being the slimy politician that he is, I think he played off of this. He may have given her a romantic card or something, and told her not to open it until the next day at a specified time, because it was a suprise.
The card contained instructions to meet him immediately for a romantic interlude in the park near a landmark off the path. She had been on the computer to pass the time, waiting excitedly to open the card. After opening it and reading the instructions, she didn't want to be late, so she she made sure she knew exactly where to meet him. Hence the map on her computer.
Once she arrived, they took a walk towards the remote area- he was leading her to a "romantic spot." In casual conversation and under the pretense of an appeal to their "privacy" and "secret" he made sure she didn't tell anyone where they would be. She assured him she didn't.
Having it all planned out and verifying no one else knew she was there, he proceeded with the plan he had thought out. He then restrained her agressively, normally a prelude to the "kinky sex" that she was used to. Her being thus distracted, he grabbed a rock he had conveniently placed nearby and smashed her skull with it.
Having led her to her own grave, he simply dragged her the remaining few feet to it, and put her in. He quickly left the area, taking a premeditated route where he knew he wouldn't likely be seen, having accomplished his evil plan.

He said that area was inconsistent with where a body might be found because there is no path or trail nearby. You mean somebody might deliberately hide a body off the trail ... in an inaccessible spot? Way to go, Sherlock!

How can a random attacker "lure" somebody into a park? I'm not buying that.
Here is the list of the last web sites she looked at; I just can't see anywhere there that she was looking for anything other than regular stuff.

I live in a area like this and deer are always hit by cars and run into the near by woods to lay down and die. This area is heavy wooded and if someone smelled something they probably thought it was a dead deer that was hit and decomposing in the near by woods They would still be obligated to investigate.

He leaves the White House at 12:55, she logs off her computer at 1 PM; nobody ever sees her again; his whereabouts are in doubt. He supposedly was in his office, and then went to a doctor, who, by an odd coincidence, he has never named. Wonder where Mrs. Condit was all afternoon.
Mark Geragos told Greta van Sustern last night that he was going to ask Condit today if he could release ALL the details of where he was that day, and if he said yes, he'd get back to her.
Don't hold dinner.

However, I also think Ingmar grabbed her when she was headed home. And he tied her hands before covering the body?

I don't believe Chandra had a chance to be headed home. Whoever lured her out of her apartment and took her to Rock Creek Park or whatever the first distanation was, did it with the intention that Chandra would never return.

Plausible, you have to admit. Maybe the DC police should carefully check Mrs. Condit's hotel room for bloodstains.
Or maybe check for thumbless prints.

That's an interesting theory. He is creepy and that makes him look suspicious. But I don't see the motive. He seems to have had a lot of affairs. How could his wife not know what was going on? Even if Chandra threatened to go to his wife about the affair, how would that threaten either his marriage or his political career?
Where's Sherlock Holmes when you need him.
Wasn't Chandra supposedly looking up the site of some castle or something the day after she was last seen? Is it anywhere near where she was found?
If so she could have been sneaking to the "castle", to either meet Condit or catch him with someone else, when this wacko got her.

Police continued to refer to the Levy case as a "death investigation," not a homicide. They're still trying to find a way to call it a suicide.

Soooo, Ingmar struggles with Chandra, ties her hands and leaves her in the thick under brush? Or struggles with her, drags her a couple hundred yards then ties her hands and leaves her in the thick underbrush? Leaving the walkman and her gold ring?
Doesn't sound right.

Why would she have looked up the Klingle Mansion on the Internet if she was just going jogging? It would be unusual to map out a jogging path for an evening run.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned in a while is this: Wasn't Condit on an Intelligence Committe? And a few months after Chandra's "disaperance", another aide to a Florida Congressman who is also on the same intelligence committe dies strangely. Then, not to long after, 9/11 happens. If is is all correct, then this all seems a little odd. May have no connection, but it seems odd.

One serious problem for the police is reconstructing the timeline of her disappearance and (assumed) murder. Based on the forensic evidence, it might be difficult or impossible to pinpoint the precise time of death. Which unfortunately gives Condit a lot of latitude...
