Chandra Levy's body apparently was dumped in Rock Creek Park, where police found her remains on Wednesday, 13 months after she went missing, law-enforcement sources and others familiar with the investigation said yesterday.

The former intern's remains were found under thick underbrush far from a path, which indicates her body was placed there, sources said. The remains were found on a hillside above the creek that runs along Broad Branch Road NW.

It makes one wonder how much information Condit could obtain about local crime investigations for a possible copy-cat crime. He is just too creepy.

That's an interesting theory. He is creepy and that makes him look suspicious.

But I don't see the motive. He seems to have had a lot of affairs. How could his wife not know what was going on? Even if Chandra threatened to go to his wife about the affair, how would that threaten either his marriage or his political career?

Where's Sherlock Holmes when you need him.

Court records show that both women were wearing Walkman portable radios, which Guandeque did not take. A Walkman was found near Miss Levy's remains on Wednesday.

If they'd all been wearing Sturm, Ruger products instead, none of them would have been disturbed........for long.

I think that I aggree with you. If someone runs over a hamster in my neighborhood, the smell is evident for blocks. If she was killed in the park, wouldn't ONE of the searchers have caught a whiff? I have never been to this park, so I may be wrong, but I have yet to see this brought out.

Condit was into some pretty freaky things, that I am sure Chandra knew about. She wasn't as cooperative as Condit's other women. But you are right about Condit's wife, she is as bad as Joey Buttafuco's wife, but everyone has their limits and maybe Condit thought his wife had reached her's.

bump for the "body might have been moved there after the search" theory.

If Condit did it, it was because Levy was about to drop a dime on him. However; if it was any Condit, my money is on the wife.

my money is on the wife.

I tend to think so too, since she just happened to be in town at the time of Levy's disappearance. Here's my speculative scenario (since speculation seems to be the order of the day around here):
Chandra had told her folks that 'something big' was about to happen. Also told her landlord back in January she expected to move in soon with her (ahem) 'boyfriend'. So, she goes to meet Mr. and Mrs. Condit for the showdown, where the happy couple break the news to Mrs. Condit that it's over for her. The Mrs. freaks out, pulls a gun a shoots Chandra in a jealous rage. They keep the body somewhere for almost a year, then dump it in Rock Creek.
Plausible, you have to admit. Maybe the DC police should carefully check Mrs. Condit's hotel room for bloodstains.

Here's my theory:

There's an Arab connection. Condit was known to 'run' with Arabian ambassador-types; this fits nicely with D.Dunne's "Horsewhisperer's" story.
Condit wanted Ms. Levy out of the way and the Arabs were waiting in the parking lot to either kidnap her (after making a rendevouz with Condit) or give her a ride (as Ms. Levy knew some of Condit's running buddies).
Ms. Levy was taken to a plane bound for, God knows where, where rough sex took place and got out of hand OR Ms. Levy was snuffed shortly after being abducted per wishes of Condit.

Just my opinion.

I think Levy was too young, powerless and inexperienced to pose any serious threat to Condit. Also a passive personality type, as the sex-object thing attests. Condit is too powerful and experienced to have to resort to actual murder with someone like her, and besides, the Clinton Impeachment proves that politicians have little to fear from revelations about mere sex -- even if it involves S&M with Arab 'dignitaries' participating! No, I still say jealousy is the most likely motive.

On the other hand, if you were the D.C. Police Dept., wouldn't you subscribe to that theory to keep from looking more incompetent than ever?

This is where the investigation goes sideways. It's going to be about covering up mistakes. Chandra's dead and doesn't matter any more.

Regards,

Wingy... I live in a area like this and deer are always hit by cars and run into the near by woods to lay down and die. This area is heavy wooded and if someone smelled something they probably thought it was a dead deer that was hit and decomposing in the near by woods.

This morning on Fox News they said that their was report that they may have found tied rope near the remains, suggesting that she was tied up. If this true then it will be moving to a homicide case very soon. I think they know the guy sitting in jail did not do it, I think they know who did it and are trying to find that one little piece of evidence that can prove it. Something small is going to crack this case wide open.

I keep coming back to Luray, VA, wondering why Condidit was there in that remote place late at night. If I rember correctly he called stewardess Smith from there and said that he had to lay low for a while. Luray is a very odd place for a congressman to be late at night.

I can envision a scenario whereby Ms. Levy was murdered there or en route to Luray and her body kept in a remote cave or a storage facility. She may have been gagged and tied up with ropes on the way to Luray. Later on, her murderer could have retrieved the body and dumped it in Rock Creek Park to take advantage of the serial killer theory, which John Walsh has bandied about as gospel.

In any event, the fact that her body was taken to Rock Creek is hugely significant and removes any doubt that her murder was a random event.

Police said the area where the remains were found was not searched with dogs, but police recruits had been through the area on foot last year as part of a 1,700-acre sweep of the park.

The Post is reporting that Assistant Chief Gainer said that that particular slope was not searched by the police recruits. Search grids came from the East and the West and about 100 yards between the two groups was not searched, and that was where she was found, on that steep incline. He said that area was inconsistent with where a body might be found because there is no path or trail nearby. Duh! for the DC Police.

Hmmm, body placed there 13 months after Chandra's disappearance. I wonder how Mark Geragos had the prescience to predict that Chandra's body would be discovered in May. And can anybody confirm that it is true that, as I read on a thread on FR here this morning, Geragos made mention of these Rock Creek Park assaults on Larry King Live last summer?

Is there a Scientologist tie between Geragos and Greta Van Susteren?

"She was looking on a Web site to get to a certain point. She was looking for a certain point," said the source. "It was as if someone lured her there."

This investigator sounds like he doesn't buy the random jogging in the park attack theory. I was beginning to lean that way yesterday. Now I don't know what to think.

Are there plenty of directional signs in this park?

A source close to the investigation said it appears that Miss Levy was lured into the park by her attacker because she was looking for directions into the park before she left her apartment.

This statement just about vindicates Guandeque. I think Condit invited her to the park for a clandestine meeting before she returned home and then he killed her. His refusal to answer questions, the disposal of the watch box, and the supposed multiple DNA found at his apartment are quite telling. I wonder if anyone has questioned his aide that drove him to VA to visit a trash can.

Thanks for the holdiay good wishes. May you have a safe and enjoyable one sir.

I think she went to meet up with someone. I think the someone was probably Condit.

However, I also think Ingmar grabbed her when she was headed home.
