The Michigan teenager simply invited a couple of friends over to play pool at his families million dollar Farmington hills home, then left them to join his parents for Memorial Day at a cottage near Fenton, Michigan.

But by the time the firefighters had arrived the next morning, a wrecking crew of his fellow teens had fled, leaving behind a million dollar mess.

LOL...As I recall, Rosie in that outfit was a hoot -- just as long as the barf-bag was nearby :-D

And cig butts, very hard to track if the folks don't smoke.

Needless to say I was mowing the lawn 2 times a week!

It isn't too difficult to have a remote listening device in your home. We had a cheap phone message machine that let us dial in and listen to our home. No noise, no problems. Just think what a dial in would have achieved. It would have been like the Expedia commercial where the parents imagine a vacation without their son, while their son winks and smirks with his friend.

The real problem was handing over all that property to the son alone and also the son letting his friends have a blow out. And neighbors who did not care. Overall a recipe for disaster.

I posted this before ...when I heard our son was invited to a barely supervised hot tub party (co-ed), the veto sign was lit and stayed lit. That way nothing could possibly happen. Some of his classmates on another occasion decided to steal a car. So they were all involved in a felony. It sounded like fun at the moment.

According to the story in our paper, the son wasn't innocent as it first appeared. Apparently, he had been ciruclating news of his party around his school for weeks prior to the event. Also, the family's two cats died in the fire. I don't understand teens who can't be trusted at home for a weekend. Very sad.

Agreed 100%. I knew a kid whose father let him keep all hours and smoke dope. I asked him if it made him happy. He said with great sadness and anger, "No, because I know he doesn't care." Kids know that. They may rage like gorillas about the rules, do some chest thumping, but they know what real love is.

I supervised a bunch of 7th grade boys, our son included, on a school trip to a winter resort. I don't like crabby kids who haven't slept, so I made sure they all went to sleep each night. I caught two who thought they could fool me. The last words I heard that night were from my son, saying proudly, "I told you my dad was mean." I had no trouble with any of them and we had a great time.

We used the surprise appearance method to keep kids in their rooms at a big youth gathering. All night long the men prowled the halls. We caught a couple of them, one sneaking around in an orange t-shirt. My son was no trouble. He said, "I'm not afraid of what they will do to me if I am in the wrong. I am afraid of what YOU will do." It made for a wonderful and peaceful teen transition, resolving into marriage and then (in the proper order) two delightful grandchildren.

The worst kids are the ones whose parents play the role of criminal lawyers, arguing the innocence of their clients.

I don't know what most of this thread has to do with politics, teen vandals, or anything else for that matter. But I'm certainly enjoying it.

Yep, she's Wally George's daughter (although she hasn't had much to do with him in a long time).

When I lived in So. Cal., the police charged the parents for the cost of the police visit, if they were called to their home to end an unsupervised party. If the parents were home, they were charged for serving alcohol to minors.

"The recent Vegas flick with the Elvis casino robbers was not too bad. Kevin Costner dies and Kurt Russell is the hero..."

3000 Miles To Graceland. I've watched it 3 times now. I'm not a fan of Costner, but he made a really good bad guy...one of his best performances.
