I had the opportunity to join a mosh pit last year. I went to see a friend's punk/ska band play. I got right up front near the stage and before I knew it, the pit opened in front of me. Guys were bouncing off each other and slamming off one another. It got pretty rough, especially for the little punks.
Thankfully, I was quite bigger than most of the little guys and could push most of them off. I can't understand what the appeal is - I would rather sip a cold beer and listen to some CDB or country tunes, classic rock. IMO, moshing is not fun and entirely too much work, but then again, I might be showing my age!

I feel as old as you do- having retired from avid music listening for years- I don't recognize any of today's bands...

My friends are all getting too old. When the Dead Kennedys played here recently, we were all watching from the wings of the stage rather than standing in the crowd of kids moshing around (kids who weren't even alive when the DKs stopped performing).

I remember the "CHiPs" episode - the wimpy new wave band Snow Pink vs. the evil punks Pain. Doug McClure ran the punk club!

I swear I am going to publish a mosh pit etiquette guide. ;-)

Ok, because we are trading dangerous pit stories, the worst I have ever seen was at a Pantera show. It was a locked pit. If you were in it when it began, no way you were getting out.

Sounds to me like Scotty was the kind of kid immortalized in Warren Zevon's
Excitable Boy. I wonder if Scott rubbed the pot roast all over his chest?
Seriously, what in the heck is an unsupervised 14 year old doing at a RATM concert? I guess I've turned into a no-fun old geezer (and I'm only 48)!

Just for clarification: You don't support a ban on crowd surfing just because you wouldn't do it, right? No, people are entitled to do all kinds of idiotic things, and I'm entitled to view them as idiotic.
