The Kennedy family has had trials and tribulations stretching back half a century:

- Joseph P. Kennedy Jr.: son of Joseph and Rose. Killed in plane crash in 1944 during World War II. He was 29.

- Rosemary Kennedy: daughter of Joseph and Rose. Institutionalized since 1941 because of retardation and failed lobotomy.

- Kathleen Kennedy: daughter of Joseph and Rose. Died in plane crash in 1948. She was 28.

- John F. Kennedy: son of Joseph and Rose, 35th president. Assassinated in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963. He was 46.

- JFK's son Patrick Bouvier Kennedy: Born nearly six weeks premature to president and wife Jacqueline on Aug. 7, 1963; died Aug. 9, 1963.

- John F. Kennedy Jr.: son of JFK and Jacqueline; died July 16, 1999, when his plane crashed off coast of Martha's Vineyard. He was 38. Crash also killed wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, 33, and sister-in-law Lauren Bessette, 34.

---

-Robert F. Kennedy: president's brother, assassinated in Los Angeles on June 5, 1968. He was 42.

- Son David: died in 1984 of a drug overdose in a hotel near family vacation home in Palm Beach, Fla.

- Son Joseph: involved in 1973 car accident that left a female passenger paralyzed for life.

- Son Michael: accused of having affair with his family's teen-age baby sitter. Killed Dec. 31, 1997, in a skiing accident at Aspen, Colo. He was 39.

---

Edward M. Kennedy: brother of John and Robert. Critically injured in plane crash June 19, 1964; an aide, Edward Moss, was killed. Drove a car off a bridge on Massachusetts' Chappaquiddick Island on July 18, 1969, after a party. Aide Mary Jo Kopechne was later found dead in submerged car.

Son Edward Jr.: right leg amputated in 1973 because of cancer.

Son Patrick: now a congressman, sought treatment for cocaine addiction as a teen-ager in 1986.

---

William Kennedy Smith, nephew of the brothers: Accused of raping a woman in 1991 at the family's Palm Beach estate; acquitted later that year.

---

Michael Skakel, nephew of Robert F. Kennedy's widow, Ethel: Convicted June 7, 2002, of beating Greenwich, Conn., neighbor Martha Moxley to death in 1975 when both were 15.

I find it significant that AP would even run this recounting. I post it here because we must never forget what a bunch of rich losers these are.

Reads sort of like "Decadence for Dummies."

Good thing they're such champions of the common man. Otherwise, the whole stinking rat's nest of 'em would be hauled off to Devil's Island, much to Devil's Island's detriment.

I would also add that Joseph P. Kennedy sought to end his marriage after some 10 years or so and, being Catholic, could not get a divorce. So, he successfully petitioned for an annulment which means that in the eyes of the Church, his children are bastards.

Nice family.

From the AP's point of view, they want you to feel sorry for the Kennedy family and show compassion toward them.

Personally, I consider the Kennedy clan a pile of infected hemorrhoids that the elite brown-nosers in our society can't detach themselves from.

Let's see, Kathleen was flying away with a married lord when the fatal plane crash occured. Her father, old Joe, identified her body and then stiffed her late husband's family (the Devonshires) for the funeral tab.

Poor Rosemary was a tragic case. She was mildly retarded, certainly not enough to forclude her being presented at Court. Her letters to her father, Ambassador Joseph Kennedy are so sweet and touching. He had her lobotamized in 1941, and turned her into an incontinent, severely retarded wreak. She has been sheltered in a Wisconsin nunnery ever since, though the Kennedy family claimed during JFK's presidential run in 1960, that Rosemary was shy and retiring, and teaching school children in Wisconsin. She couldn't even read any more.....the Kennedys are hard on their kids, just read about Ethel and Bobby's brood.

"...we must never forget what a bunch of rich losers these are."

While I am hardly a fan of the Kennedy's, I would not call someone a loser because he/she lost a baby, contracted cancer, or was assassinated. The woes brought on by their own hand lend 'loser' credibility to Ted and other progeny but a broad brush is not warranted.

...a broad brush is not warranted.

Au contraire. This rat-faced gaggle of limousine liberals (who have so much wealth they want to redistribute yours) are of the same ilk as the infamous Klintoon duo. Chel-see should have married into the Kennedy Klan as the two leftist families belong linked!

Joseph P. Kennedy was stock market manipulator and bootlegger.

St. John the Martyr was a philanderer and rakehell.

Robert the Dead was a piece of work, a nasty SOB who may have been involved with MM's death.

Edward the Pretender was kicked out of Harvard for cheating, was almost kicked out of the University of Virgina for reckless driving, killed Mary Jo Kopechne.

Makes one wonder what kind of a deal Joe Kennedy made in exchange for his family's fame and fortune. To have such tragedy visited on the second and third generations is more than coincidental. Old Joe lived to see four of his own children killed, two in plane crashes and two by bullets.

The problem with this article is that it indiscriminantly mixes up the bad things that have happened to members of the Kennedy family and their relatives with the bad stuff they brought on themselves. The intended effect is to make you feel sorry for the "star-crossed" Kennedys. It's a typical example from the dishonest press.

[W]e must never forget what a bunch of rich losers these are.

Not disagreeing with your characterization, in general, but

- Joseph P. Kennedy Jr.: son of Joseph and Rose. Killed in plane crash in 1944 during World War II. He was 29.

Died after volunteering for a dangerous mission. His brother, John, served honorably as well in WW-II. Admittedly no more honorably and bravely than many thousands of other Americans. I agree JFK was a so-so president and his death burnished his reputation more than anything else he did as president but his service in the War did him credit.

The rest of them are a sorry joke. The fat bloviator and his nitwit kid are unbearable. At least Teddy's liver will quit in the next few years, but Rhode Island is with stuck Patches into the forseeable future.

Let us not be too judgmental about the Kennedies and this article. The media's actual article was much longer and detailed. But, in accordance with the law, was submitted to Ted Kennedy for review and approval. What you see in this article was pretty much all that survived. No media outlet would, of course, even think about publishing anything not pre-approved by the Kennedy aparat.

Recall, when Joe crashed his plane and all the USN and Coast Guard ships went out to find him. Ted did not approve any of the coverege of the search, recovery or burial. No questions, no humphing, no comment by the press. So, the attached, modified artcile is really quite a monument to the media's relative independence.

If you think the "Free Mumia" campaign has a lot of barbara streisand and media hype, wait until the Kennedies and their media launch the "Free Skaekal" campaign. In the interim, the Kennedies will not permit the media to print/say anything that might be inconsistent with the impending freedom blitz. We know you understand and will comply with their requirements.

Some of the bad things that happened are the result of risk taking behavior. Flying in bad weather, driving in open cars against secret service advice, risky skiing activities.

This family has genes that are pulling it out of the gene pool.
