Its what in Israel is referred to as administrative detention. Its used there against terrorists and the British used similar regulations in Palestine and Northern Ireland to deal with unrest. Its finally found a place in America. We can expect the ACLU to scream long and loud about the practice but I don't think there's going to be much public sympathy with the argument dangerous terrorists deserve freedom of movement around the country.

The Slippery Slope of TERROR

Step 1: "Only non-citizens will be put before a military tribunal. No need to worry."
Step 2: "Only 'bad' US citizens will be put before a military tribunal. No need to worry."
Step 3: "Actually, there's no need for a military tribunal. We can indefinitely detain US citizens 'until President Bush decides the war against terrorism is over'. No need to worry."
Step 4: -- Fill in the blank for the next step on the slippery slope. --
