Woodland Hills Neighborhood Council Election: A detailed report

The Neighborhood Councils are new components of Los Angeles City government designed to make it more responsive to local concerns. I attended the first election, and it appeared to show that the city is honestly trying to listen to the people. Whether it will like what they have to say is another question. Click on the link for my detailed report, including numerous photographs.

I noticed that they're still ignoring "The Lost Square". Not only were we not notified of this election, but we're not even shown on their little map as being part of Woodland Hills. This is quite curious when one considers that the original Warner Ranch home is in our area! (Woodland Hills is defined by the old Warner Ranch property lines.) Oh well, this is pretty typical of the stinky government we have in L.A..

You may want to manipulate this to your advantage - if the Lost Square really isn't defined in Woodland Hills, I understand you can set up your community organization and get $50k in setup money if you somehow become the approved voice, however they decide that.

PS Where IS the Lost Square?

The "Lost Square" is the area between Shoup, Vanowen, Topanga Canyon, and Victory. My wife saved a Daily News clipping from 9 years ago that shows the area as part of the Woodland Hills neighborhood council. When the group now running the council filed their petition, they specified borders that left us out. We voiced our objection to their border at a meeting a month or two ago. The organizers promised to amend the border but, of course, never did.
